Michael and Marie.
Our 2019 Kia Sorento, Snow White Pearl paint has the same paint issues chipping and pealing. We spoke with NHTSA, who advised that they only deal with safety issues. They advised that we need to make the complaint to the Federal Trade Commission 877-382-4357. When we called they took our statement and our contact information and advised that we all need to file the complaint with them and also with the Better Business bureau Auto Line. It sounds like once enough of us make a complaint with them that they will take action.

Good day, found the post below on Facebook. Take action and file a NHTSA complaint at the link below and join the Facebook Group "KIA SORENTO SNOW WHITE PAINT PEELING CHIPPING AND DELAMINATION"

Hi there KIA friends !

I’m the maker of this page and I own a 2014 Kia Sorento that the peeling is rapidly peeling off ( or what the body shops call Delamination ) . My paint began peeling in a tiny spot I thought was a chip from a rock but rapidly began peeling all over .

Here are some steps to follow to help getting your paint fixed and paid for by KIA . We all need to file a Paint complaint with Report a Vehicle Safety Problem, Equipment Issue | NHTSA

This is extremely IMPORTANT, You will need your VIN # ** PLEASE INCLUDE THE COLOR OF YOUR KIA** The paint peeling is seriously dominate in PEARL WHITE and that needs to be addressed!! We have seen peeling in other colors as well. 🏛We want this to lead to a investigation, here is what the NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFTEY ADMINISTRATION says**👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

* Any documentation you have related to your complaint, such as photos or a police report:

* ALL complaints are reviewed.

* Some complaints may lead to an investigation.

* Some investigations lead to recalls.

* Unverifiable complaints may be removed from searchable information.

Note: The review and investigation process MAY take a long time, but don't worry--you will be notified if there is a recall.

—————————————-
We need to include pictures📸, and dates and mileage of when this started and the progression on peeling .

This is really important!! We need to work together and get the NHTSA to recognize there is a nationwide problem . Once they have a certain number of complaints they begin to look deeper in to the problem and may force KIA to act — and recall the cars that need paint !! Let’s do it!

Next , DOCUMENTATION . Take pictures of the paint with dates and mileage — keep track of new spots that are peeling . Document any times you many have taken your KIA in for maintenance and documented your paint complaint. For example, we’re you told by your KIA dealership that your 36 month paint warranty was over ?? If so, request the maintenance record for that day. They should of noted in your paperwork that detail . If they did not but you remember asking, keep a note of that visit and list it in your documentation. Another example, have you ever gone to a private body shop to get a quote to fix peeling ? If so, get that paperwork. Of course if you have already paid for paint and have records and receipts document those into your file .

Next,

Be prepared with your documentation , have it scanned on to your computer and ready to send as attachments to KIA. ( Upload all your photos and documents )

Then, contact KIA CORPORATE AMERICA

✨1-949-468-4800 or customer service 1-800-333-4542

Tell them of your rapid Delamination and paint peeling . Include the Color of your and all the locations your paint is peeling or bubbling. I believe the ENTIRE kia needs to repainted and fixing one spot is not the solution!! This includes the top of the car and racks on top if your car has them. Mine are silver and peeling .

You will be assigned a case manage and case number. Your case manage will then direct you to your dealership or body shop for a quote.

Please keep the page updated on your progress .

Thank you !!

MOD Edit:
Removed unnecessary spaces.
Aloha! I did everything you said. I was instructed by Kia to get 3 estimates which I did. After I submitted the estimates they stated that they were not going to do anything about it. What a frustrating , and time consuming process . I will never buy another Kia again. They do not stand behind their products. Hope you had better luck. Aloha, Richard

2013 Kia Optima in Snow White Pearl. Started about a year ago. I can't even wash the car now without having more paint chip off! The pictures are just a small sampling. It's a shame because I LOVE my car but it's not looking very pretty without paint!
This is happening to my 2013 KIA Optima SXL too last few years! Grrr

The paint on my 2015 Kia Sorento has been peeling for a while (in 4+ places) but today I was driving in Florida in pouring rain when suddenly I saw something on my windshield and on the hood of my car and it was the paint literally peeling off AS I was driving! Can anything be done other than trying to purchase touchup paint for these large areas where sheets of paint are peeling off like huge stickers? I have video, but it won’t let me post the video.

Aloha! I have had the same problem with my 2014 Kia Soul. There isnt any area on the car where the paint isn’t peeling. The paint has been peeling off the car for the last several years, and continues to peel. The car only has 60k miles on it. It is a latent defect that should be recalled from Kia, and every car with this issue repainted. I have tried everything to get Kia to repaint the car, but have failed at every attempt. I will never buy another Kia again

I purchased Pearl white 2015 Kia Sorento SXL new at the time. Noticed 4 weeks ago, 5/27/24, that paint had peeled away above the passenger side door. Yesterday, 6/19/14, I now have two more spots where paint peeled away on the hood. There were no spots of chips prior to the paint peeling off as I had waxed my car 3 weeks ago. I went to the Kia dealership and they told me paint is only covered up to 36,000 miles. I contacted KIA CORPORATE AMERICA
✨1-949-468-4800 or customer service 1-800-333-4542 and he told me the same thing. I have used the touch up pen to stop more peeling in those areas.

Hello, everyone. New to forum; new to the problem. I have a Snow Pearl White 2014 Sorento SX Limited that just started to delaminate at approx. 110,000 miles. Like I said mine just started - I sympathize with all of you that have newer years/less miles and much more delamination. My mom had a Chrysler and the whole hood delaminated and it looked awful - not to mention what it does to the value of the car. Anyway thank you for this post - I just filed a complaint with NHTSA and uploaded pictures there. I will call Kia as well. Keeping my fingers crossed they take responsibility.

Question - has anyone bought a paint kit and tried to fix the small spots? If so can you share which touch up paint you purchased? I see many different versions and would like to get the best one possible.

Thank you for your time and thank you to the person who started this thread!

From what I can see from all the pictures everyone of the large paint chips appear to be along the A pillar mostly, a few hoods and some fenders

I have a 2016 Kia Sorento glass roof with the white perl.
Mine started showing up right after it got cold and was worse after a overnight dew.
Mine peeled off along both passenger and drivers pillars as well the farthest back panel crossing the roof. After looking at it for a while, I got sick because Kia will never and I mean never start painting cars. That would leave them open to painting every white car for the rest of its life. Ether that or Kia would have too strip every white car down to metal and paint the entire car. Not going to happen.

It's the primer sealer prep the gray sealer stays but the paint feels away. It's the prep between the seal coat and the paint. It's not roughed up enough to hold onto the sealer. I gave up and peeled everything I could off and scrapped it with a metal scraper then I bought a pint of white base paint a pint of white perl and a spray can of clear from Sherwin Williams
I scuffed up the sealer and sanded the paint edges smooth after I prepped everything I could I watched do it your self paint and painted it myself.

YouTube tutorial.

Kia doesn't want to paint millions of white cars, so make a decision and fix the ugly ether with a pro or on your own.

I have started to have the same problem with my 2015 Sorento SX. No need to post pics as it is exactly like the others on here. My question is , when purchased new I had to pay extra as it was a premium colour. Does this bear any weight on the fact and at least get that premium refunded. Very disappointed with Kia for not helping or addressing the problem.

My 2019 Kia Sorento… paint is literally falling off in the driveway. Kia will do nothing about it. It’s Snow White Pearl. I will never buy another Kia or a Snow White pearl car again… This car had about 20 miles on it when I bought it in 2019 and I don’t drive it hard. It has 53,000 miles on it. Just out of warranty … oh yay….

Sounds like it'll be a few years before I find out if my 2020 Sorento is affected, I have the Snow White Pearl Paint. Since they added $395 for it, I expect it to last the life of the car!
I have a 2019 and the paint has peeled….

I really don’t think I should have to pay for this . It pisses me off to no end….

This makes me mad

I have posted this on other threads. But I wanted to post my findings so everyone could see the results I went through with peeling pearl white paint

I own a 2016 Kia Sorento 2.0 GLE. Yes it's pearl white,

One day I noticed the paint bubbling at the A pillars along the driver's side window not much but I could see a bubble. Later that month I noticed more bubbling and a bit of peeling on the passengers side A pillar as well. Later that week, I noticed the rear panel where the satellite antenna is located was peeling pretty bad too.

So went down and I tried to file a claim with Kia who gave me the run around and made me feel like I was talking to a wall.

Within weeks large areas were flaking off. One morning my wife drove off and left a 6" flake of paint in the street.

So I got mad and broke out a scraper and scraped all the lose paint off that I could find. It wasn't hard it came right off. When I was done both sides from the windshield all the way back to the back windows was gone, and the panel over the top at the rear of the car was primer gray too. The paint just scraped off with little to no effort. It really wasn't difficult to remove.

Note: Here's the problem.
The back of the paint chip isn't gray it is consistently white. (Look at the back of your paint chip) The paint delaminates from the primer sealer that Kia uses to prep the metal to receive the base coat of paint.
It isn't sun or moisture or wear and tear, is the primer sealer that doesn't adhere to the paint.

The pearl paint is a three stage paint.
A base coat that looks flat
A second coat which has the pearl in it
and a top coat of clear
.
They all bond together and peel off as one piece. The problem is the base coat doesn't adhere to the primer sealer.
Kia uses a three stage paint that isn't compatible with the primer sealer or it wouldn't delaminate so consistently.
If you look at the back of every chip, it's white. All the pictures show gray primer. Everyone of them. But the back of the paint chip isn't gray its white.
So ergo that's the problem

So after Kia gave me the runaround and my car started looking tearable I got mad and determined to do something about it.
I got the supplies I needed and started sanding and prepped my car myself. I painted the car using a small spray kit I got from the automotive paint store.
They mixed up the three
separate paints I needed in little half quart cans so I could do it myself. It cost about $160.00 for the supplies

A few youtube videos later and some effort on my part and It was an exact match. A 3 stage pearl paint job that looked like factory.

Here's the rub. The paint is now peeling in new areas I didn't paint, so it will continue to happen.

This should tell everyone that Kia will fight repainting all the snow white pearl cars they sold because they would have to strip them down to metal and repaint all of the cars if they were forced to warranty the paint.

I guess what I'm saying is just don't get the pearl white paint on a Kia or expect to repaint different sections of the he car. And no painting over the existing paint won't fix the problem.

Thoughts?

There's definitely primer under the peeling white paint and suspect that it's a chemical mismatch which can be seen on a few other brands that obviously use the same paint manufacturer.

Well it's been about 5 months since I took matters into my own hands and prepped and painted the areas that were peeling.

Guess what.

Right near where I repaired the peeling paint started to bubble as well it wasn't where I did the repairs. It wasn't my work it's a new area that had nothing to do with the peeling paint previously.

So again I scrapped the paint back until it refused to let go and sanded and prepped it for paint.

it was the same issue, the paint separated from the primer as it did before.

I haven't painted it yet the weather turned and there was too much moisture in the air, but you can see the same locations as the other KIA's right on the A pillers.

I'm starting to think it's not just an incompatibility of primer and paint, but a serious flex point issue that causes the paint to start to release in the first place.

Why are all the cars peeling in the same places most of the time?

The paint literally fell off my car ( the hood) in my driveway. And No ONE will do one thing about it. It was bought in 2019 and not wrecked.. always well taken care of and garaged the majority of the time. I am beyond pissed. Why should I pay for something not my fault, obviously s defect considering many Snow White pearl cars have paint coming off.
