Good day, found the post below on Facebook. Take action and file a NHTSA complaint at the link below and join the Facebook Group "KIA SORENTO SNOW WHITE PAINT PEELING CHIPPING AND DELAMINATION"

Hi there KIA friends !

I’m the maker of this page and I own a 2014 Kia Sorento that the peeling is rapidly peeling off ( or what the body shops call Delamination ) . My paint began peeling in a tiny spot I thought was a chip from a rock but rapidly began peeling all over .

Here are some steps to follow to help getting your paint fixed and paid for by KIA . We all need to file a Paint complaint with Report a Vehicle Safety Problem, Equipment Issue | NHTSA

This is extremely IMPORTANT, You will need your VIN # ** PLEASE INCLUDE THE COLOR OF YOUR KIA** The paint peeling is seriously dominate in PEARL WHITE and that needs to be addressed!! We have seen peeling in other colors as well. 🏛We want this to lead to a investigation, here is what the NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFTEY ADMINISTRATION says**👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

* Any documentation you have related to your complaint, such as photos or a police report:

* ALL complaints are reviewed.

* Some complaints may lead to an investigation.

* Some investigations lead to recalls.

* Unverifiable complaints may be removed from searchable information.

Note: The review and investigation process MAY take a long time, but don't worry--you will be notified if there is a recall.

—————————————-
We need to include pictures📸, and dates and mileage of when this started and the progression on peeling .

This is really important!! We need to work together and get the NHTSA to recognize there is a nationwide problem . Once they have a certain number of complaints they begin to look deeper in to the problem and may force KIA to act — and recall the cars that need paint !! Let’s do it!

Next , DOCUMENTATION . Take pictures of the paint with dates and mileage — keep track of new spots that are peeling . Document any times you many have taken your KIA in for maintenance and documented your paint complaint. For example, we’re you told by your KIA dealership that your 36 month paint warranty was over ?? If so, request the maintenance record for that day. They should of noted in your paperwork that detail . If they did not but you remember asking, keep a note of that visit and list it in your documentation. Another example, have you ever gone to a private body shop to get a quote to fix peeling ? If so, get that paperwork. Of course if you have already paid for paint and have records and receipts document those into your file .

Next,

Be prepared with your documentation , have it scanned on to your computer and ready to send as attachments to KIA. ( Upload all your photos and documents )

Then, contact KIA CORPORATE AMERICA

✨1-949-468-4800 or customer service 1-800-333-4542

Tell them of your rapid Delamination and paint peeling . Include the Color of your and all the locations your paint is peeling or bubbling. I believe the ENTIRE kia needs to repainted and fixing one spot is not the solution!! This includes the top of the car and racks on top if your car has them. Mine are silver and peeling .

You will be assigned a case manage and case number. Your case manage will then direct you to your dealership or body shop for a quote.

Please keep the page updated on your progress .

Thank you !!

Sounds like it'll be a few years before I find out if my 2020 Sorento is affected, I have the Snow White Pearl Paint. Since they added $395 for it, I expect it to last the life of the car!

It's comprised of 2 paints so we all paid extra for it. I have to wax it every couple of months and it requires alot of upkeep. At least the top is glass but guess I'll need to wax that too from what I've been reading today so that it don't explode lol.
I'm not sure the wax is going to keep the top from blowing up. :p:p
On my 14 the hood started peeling after it was hit by object. Insurance covered repaint of hood and fenders. Now the pillar on the driver side is peeling. I’ll let it get worse and then repaint my self. Not that difficult for a small area. It seems to start peeling after the area has had an impact of stones. So the side and back of car should be fine

Yes, it seems everyone's car starts chipping at the pillar but usually the passenger side. Please remember to register and read similar experiences.

Yeah I know but if the sun has something to do with it then maybe....

I just discovered last night that my 2013 Kia Sorento SX Snow White Pearl is doing the same thing. I also put in a complaint to the NHTSA just today. Very very disappointing. I hope Kia does something about this even though I have 118,600 miles. This car has been garage kept since day one :( Any one have any luck with Kia? Should I contact them at all?

Hi,

After a major rain downpour this happen.

Do you have any suggestion how can I prevent this to continue to grow?

The car has other paint chips but minimal when compared with this one.

Thank you in advance for sharing.

It’s typical for the snow white pearl to do that. Heavy rain on the highway peeled my hood paint off. It’s a defect when painted. If you search there are many threads about this.

At first, I thought it was due to normal wear on the vehicle. And would need a touch of paint job. I started seeing other vehicle with the same areas of paint issues on the road as mines. 2014 Kia Sorento LX - Pearl White paint peeling around windshield and off hood. Bubbles started forming form under paint and paint blisters and peels away quickly in large chunks from vehicle. Went to dealership and they told me paint is only under warranty for 36k miles, but after seeing all the complaints online with white Sorento, I realized there is a problem with KIA paint. However, they suggested calling Kia directly. When calling them they have no recall for this paint issue that has been caused by a defect in the paint that for some reason happens after their 36k miles warranty.Kia neeed to fix this issue.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. Same issue, 2015 Sorento SX-L with pearl while paint. My driver's side pillar now has a foot of peeled paint. I've already called Kia and have a case number.

WOW, that's super bad! Do you park in a garage or outside?
Wow.

Outside. It sits beside a 2004 Isuzu Rodeo which is also white and outside but is NOT peeling paint!
Weather/climate isn't a factor with that, its an application issue which is a latent defect, and being a latent defect should be handled differently to your standard warranty.

Take it up with Kia Corp.
Ron, any idea what years were affected? I have a 2020 with that paint.
I'm not familiar with this model and my comment is only based on what I've seen in the few photos posted here, and it leaves me with no doubt that its a latent defect and should be covered.

Lets ask @cobra259 , who's a dealership manager, if he can find some inside info on this.

In the first week of ownership of my 2017 Ford Edge Sport, I noticed a small section of paint pealing on the front bumper, so took it to my dealership that has its own collision center, they pulled more of the paint off, took photos, and immediately got the go ahead from the mothership to completely strip down and repaint the bumper.
Great, look forward to any information about this issue. I would have to have picked the one paint that seems to have a problem! :(

Agree, wax isn't going to have any impact on this.
