there's probably about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch of the tube inside of where it goes. its the oil dipstick tube, I have no idea how to get it out to replace it. oil spits out all the time. the dipsick is in its tube, which is bolted to the block, and its in the small hole.

i dont have a picture.

the TUBE itself is broken off in the block. NOT the dipstick in the tube. i got the 96 used and noticed that the tube wasnt bolted to the block the way it should be when i went to check the oil everything came out, tube and all, as i pulled the dipstick. i looked at the bottom of the tube and saw that it snapped off in the block. today i took off the exhaust manifold heat shield, which gave me no extra room just wasted time, and bolted the tube back to the block. the dipstick is secured in where it reads the oil but that'll only last so long.

I had a Ford Contour that did the same thing. The plastic "handle" fell off the metal dipstick and the metal part was about 1/4" down in the tube. It took some thought to get it out. There was still some plastic attached to the dipstick so I heated with a torch a small brad (nail) that I had locked into a small set of locking pliers and when hot I slowly and gently pressed it into the remaining plastic and allowed it to cool. Then with the nail firmly attached to the remaining dipstick I pulled it out. Be careful NOT to push the dipstick further down into the dipstick tube. Go into the plastic at an angle.
Hope this helps...
