So I'm shopping for a new Kia Sportage EX. I went to one dealer in central Florida and they have 7 Sportage EX's on the lot. They say I'll have to pay MSRP plus an $8000 market adjustment fee, a $999 documentation fee, plus the normal sales tax, registration fee, etc.
Is the $8000 market adjustment fee and $999 documentation fee typical? They tell me that these fees are typical in today's market. Is that true?

Thanks.
I would tell them to pound sand! $8k!?? Isn't their a dealer association or a number at Kia to let them know they are rapping people off? I realize that they can charge what they want and you can shop around but that dealership needs to chill.
For that price you can get a fully loaded Toyota Avalon..

ZERO.................I walked in to the dealership a week ago, told them get me a red one, AWD, with premium package...............told them i wasn't paying for any of the add on stuff, no paint sealer, etc..............then said i was gonna offer $500 less than sticker...............as of today, there is a new sportage sitting in the garage...........never pay over sticker...................

Here on the west coast you're going pay a markup on any Sportage Hybrid above a Lx anywhere from 1500 to 5k. If you tell them no they will just say next please. And a lot of them are going to also make you pay a grand or 2 for extra's you don't want, nonnegotiable. 95% are presold before they even get to the dealer here and the rare one that actually hits the lot is gone in less than a day.

Totally agree with @89sandman; You can find ICE at or below MSRP; but HEV and PHEV are so rare you should expect to pay. I'm tracking PHEV Prestiges since they were released and there are less than 800 in the United States. The only way to get one without ordering is if someone backs out; and if one is freed up there is usually a line the dealer calls and it's sold within hours.

Similar story in Toledo, local dealership said they start around 8k over sticker for a black EX last month. I said I would pay MSRP and basic fees. The lowest I could get them was 3k over MSRP. They let me walk out the door and said they would let me know in 6 months if their inventory allowed selling at MSRP again (they had around 8 in stock with more on the way). Found the exact car an hour drive away and bought it for MSRP the very same week.

What was the actual price you paid for the car and which trim level then the out the door price? Always interesting to see how much taxes are in other places on larger purchases.

I think I got a smokin' deal. Took me weeks to find and spent a couple of hours each day looking all over the west coast.

Hybrid X-line PHEV

$38,500 for the car.

$39,870 out the door with tags, title, plates and all taxes and fees.

Good for you. Did you get any state rebates? This question is really only relevant between comparable local purchases...I paid half what you paid for taxes, reg & fees. NH is one of the least expensive states to own a car!

They have made it impossible to qualify for a tax credit here. The model can only sell a certain amount, you have to make less than 55k a year, blah blah blah.

My last post was supposed to be a new thread. Have had a few problems with my posts on this site.

can you share the dealer info?

Working with Kia in Morgantown, WV -- all legit, so far no market adjustments or BS undercoating protection packages. Honest etc. Require a deposit (which goes towards cost of purchase), most likely since I'm out of town to ensure and confirm the "ordering" process for the car.

Just crazy, I'm in Atlanta, the car is built 2 hours from my house....Yet it's cheaper to buy in West Virginia....That is messed up.

2023 Sportage SX Prestige. In the Atlanta area. In this area, there are significant market adjustments for the Prestige.

MSRP - $36,035 (includes destination $1,325, Glacial White Pearl $395, Carpeted Floor Mats $175, Auto-Dimming Mirror with HomeLink $350).
Doc Fee - $798.
Other Fee - $75.
Markup - $540.
GATAVT (tax 6.6%) - $2,472
Title & Tag - $46
Total OTD - $39,966

Excellent Dealer - Contact Jamie Maxie, Lou Sobh Kia, Cumming, GA.

Steer Clear of Dealer - Ed Voyles Kia, Smyrna, GA. They pulled the last-minute "market adjustment" of an additional $2,000. Shady and can't be trusted.

We bought our third Kia from Freedom Kia in Morgantown last year - one of the first '23 Sportage LX AWD's off the truck. Paid MSRP minus the military rebate. They have always treated us right since we bought our first Kia in 2013. (We live in Morgantown) Hope you enjoy yours when it arrives.

That just means the dealerships are at fault, not Kia corporate or the logistics company.
Hell, I bought my car in LaGrange, literally 15 minutes away from the factory, and they tried to charge me a few thousand dollars for "Mud guards and other enhancements"
