seeing there is a lot of interest in this new engine, maybe we should have a seperate thread on it. However, at the moment I have not come across anything official as to the hp and torque on this new engine as far as North America is concerned, just speculation from reviews.

This is the word from Kia Buzz, when the following question was asked:

when will the 2.0 GDI turbo be available in the Sportage for US and Canada?

answer (as of June 28th):

the 2.0 TGDI Sportage in Canada and US, you should begin to see them become available in January or February of 2011

Should be a good engine in the Sportage, good strong torque. I don't know the figures but most 2L late tech turbo deisels are very strong, much more torque than petrol engines.

I forgot North America still has a phobia of diesel in light 4wds and cars. In Aus any turbo in a 4 wd[ SUV] and 99.9% of the time it would be diesel turbo.

Actually the reason Kia is resistant to diesel is because of the crazy California emissions standards, they don't want to release a car that is only a 49 state car. At least that is what I have been told in the various Kia schools I have gone to.
As for the gasoline turbo engine, I had one in my shop and they told me that is was a 2.2 liter engine. This was a prototype that Kia was doing high altitude testing on so don't know if they are going to changing the engine displacement????

on the KIA US site they have an estimated cost of $2,000 (US) for the turbo option on the EX model, doesn't appear to be available on the LX and standard on the SX model. Its an outside site and the prices keep changing, just checked and its now at $1,800, so who knows what the final pricing will be in the fall, but I suppose its a reasonable guide.

I know the Sportage has already upped the content vs prior models, but I hope the SX contains even more as its the model I really want. Personally, I'm hoping the SX Turbo offers HID headlights and some unique color combinations -(saddle interior leather would be my pick!)

I do hope that the SX DOES NOT change the exterior much from the EX. I really don't think I like the changes they showed for the Sorento SX - I prefer the way the EX looks much more...

The turbo diesel engine in 3G is Euro V compliant which is a very high standard to meet for emissions.....so the reluctance to market them in North America has to be something to do with the perception that they won't sell.

It looks like the only change is the Turbo engine and Wheels. Everything including the interior looks the same as an EX with premium color package. Did you notice Conwelpic, if it sported LED Tails??

Very quietly last night the Sportage SX was added to the Kia website. You can Build and price now as well. It starts around 25K, I priced one with navi and leather for 30K. Seems down right reasonable.

I came to this site because I starting looking at Kia's (Sportage and Sorento) to replace my truck. Need more of a family car with better value and warranty. Already have a Hyundai Elantra for the wife and love it.

Something that is curious though is the small disclaimer on the Kia website in regards to the SX. It reads "very limited availability." So is this thing just a one year special? Kinda strange if so. I would think this would be a big sales number vehicle with that kind of power, looks and MPG.

As usual , Njerald is so sure about his Kia knowledge, but wrong again. Were you born sarcastic or is this a learned trait? You're this way in just about every thread.

According to Kia.com, they are the same Standard taillights as the Sorento LX or EX, no mention of LED taillights at all.

Just much more observant than you..........know what forum you're on?

Dissapointed

I built an SX on Kia.com. I'm really dissapointed that there is no mention of LED taillights. And, i thought for sure HID's would be offered. But, I'm thinking some things may be missing to help keep the price down.

Njerald,

My iPhone autocorrects when you type fast, and somehow Sportage became Sorento. Not all of us have time to sit in Mommy's basement and be a little smarta$$ all day like you.

For the others..............., here in Dallas at a major dealership they received their first 2011 Sportage SX (black). Although not with the Navigation package. My local dealer in Mckinney tried telling me that it'll be next March before seeing any SX's. The dealers truly know less than us. The salesman in Dallas sent me photos he took at night but aren't very good but you can still make out the T/GDI plate and dual exhaust.
