Does anyone know if there is a way to re-program the Sorrento not to do this? Jeez ain't there enough safety items on these new cars as it is! Too much actually! I know for a fact that sometimes these items can be hazardous to your health!

220 views, but no replies? Does everyone just live with this? Or does no one have these issues? I'm all for safety, but this is ridiculous!

Maybe a little more detail on what's going on. Is the parking brake stall related to the hatch or a completely separate issue? As for the hatch, can you give a more specific step by step of how it's happening? I've never had my car stall for any reason, but I rarely use my parking brake (only when parking on an incline). And I've never opened my hatch, then started the car, then closed the hatch...if that's how your problem is occuring. Perhaps I'll try it and see what happens.

To the original poster (OP)...we need more details of your problems. Please describe your exact steps that causes your vehicle to stall.

Also, have you taken it already to the dealership?

Greetings MikDee,

Lots of sweet rides on your photobucket page, enjoyed viewing them, Thanks for posting those.

I don't own a Sorento, although the company I work at rents them when in inventory, and I can tell you what you describe is absolutely -not- normal / your Sorento has an issue.

+1 on contacting the dealership / getting the vehicle in for service,

Regards,

not familiar with the sorento but , are you putting the key in the ignition and turning it to the run position?
if not it will stall every time . remote start just starts your vehicle ,you cant drive it until the key is in and in the run position .

Ok, so it is a remote start issue. Probably should have mentioned that in the first post, as there are not alot of Sorentos out there with remote start. I don't have remote start, so I can't help. In fact, you might want to add "remote start" to the title of the thread.

keyless entry is just what it implies ,you dont need a key to enter the vehicle .although you may need a key to drive it .
only the top end cars have the keyless ignition ,whereas you just have a keyfob present in the vehicle to drive it .

1) OP has EX Model which has no key start but has the push button start.
2) This is a remote start issue. Was it installed by the dealer? Was it aftermarket? Some remote starters will shut off when you open the door. Some remote starters will shut off when you depress the brake. Some don't do this. It all depends on the remote starter and the vehicle it was installed on.
3) Read through the remote start manual. The dealer should have given you one.

Different KIA vehicle but same issue:

Thanks for the great info Spacedog! It is a factory installed push button/remote start. So as I understand it, I only have 45 secs. to get into the car, THEN step on the brake to disable this feature so it doesn't stall? What good is that if you want to let the car warm up a few minutes first!?

Okay, I'll try that, but what about the stalling whenever you close the rear hatch when the engine is running?

It sounds like you have some kind of electrical issue. I start my Sorento every morning and let it run with no issue. On mornings where it has snowed I open the hatch to get my snow brush out and have never had the car shut off while I am doing any of that.

First test: My Lady used the remote start, let it warm up, then got into the car, stepped on the brake, then released the parking brake, put it in Drive then drove off, no stalling!

So that must be the trick then, step on the brake 1st when you get in the running car to disable the remote start programing. We haven't tried opening, & closing the hatch to see if it will start after doing this, but this may solve that problem as well?

Maybe. Good luck.

When you are in for your next service, I would take it back to the dealer and see if they can see if there is a way to program the remote starter to not do this. Remote start is not installed by the factory...usually dealer/port installed option. So don't know what type of remote starter your car has.

As a follow up, Thanks to ricky454, Okay, All is working just fine! After using the procedure that you mentioned, the car hasn't stalled once since! :) I can even open, & close the rear hatch without it stalling now, once I follow this procedure.
