Our factory key fob also works with the remote start. Press lock once and trunk twice within 3 seconds vehicle should start. But I read some where that the range is not as good as the remote start fob. But I haven't found that in my case. I think their about the same.

I have the instructions (found on here somewhere) for programming your key fob to do this, but apparently only three devices can be programmed to work with remote start, so you can't do both car keys and both remote start fobs.

So based on the remote start fobs being so small and the range better I never bothered programming those Car Key fobs to do this.

We're kinda of torn on which way to go on our end - wouldn't mind some opinions...
In our scenario - 99% of the time my wife will use the remote start here at the house or at her office where the car is relatively close and able to verify it has started.

Two options we're considering:
1. $340 for the Kia remote - One 1-way remote and one 2-way remote; I'll have to install but sounds like it's pretty straight forward.
2. $240 for a Clifford remote - Strictly 1-way operation; $240 price includes installation by Car Toys.

Suggestions?

Just an update, over 6 months, no issues at all with the viper smart start...... short range it works via bluetooth from the Iphone, longer range it works via the cellular connection. I can start my car from my office in a multi story building and have the ice melted or heat removed (i live in Dallas) by the time the elevator gets me down to the parking lot level.

The Kia can be found for $250 most of the time. I have not decided to get it yet for my wife but at that price seems almost a shame not to. Another point to consider is I think many of the aftermarket ones require a monthly fee if you want the advanced features that set it apart like the cellular access etc. It is not much and would not deter me from a viper if that is what I want, but something to consider. I was looking at the viper for my vehicle but some have reported problems on some models so I need to do more research.

Modern engines will not warm up just idling. You need to get in the car and drive it to get the engine to warm up. Warming the car up for more than 5 minutes is a waste of time and gas.
I'm in Winnipeg and today's high was -24C.
I used the remote for the first time to see how it works. After 8 minutes of run time the gauge hadn't moved off cold. After 5 minutes of driving the thermostat had opened and the car started pumping heat.
Toronto winters are cold compared to Florida winters

I'm in Toronto, our winters can get really cold(-20°C). The remote starts the vehicle up no problem, the range is great. But after 10 mins of engine run time with the remote start the engine shuts off!! Kinda defeats the purpose of a remote start considering the engine temperature only increases about 1 notch in the instrument panel. And that's with 2-5°C ambiant temps. We haven't hit the dead of winter yet. I don't believe my truck will warm up enough in 10 mins.

I have just completed the installation of interior floor and outside puddle lights and I'm looking to install one of these remote starters, would they work on on an Australian model? I don't believe it is an option for us down under. Does anyone have the installation instructions for me to get an idea of whats involved with the installation? thanks.
From what I've read, the remote start would be a lot simpler than the puddle lights. I'm installing the puddle lights right now, and it's a pain! I can't imagine the remote start is more difficult.

I just purchased a 2016 SX-V6 with remote start have say it's not good. It does start your car but if you don't press the brake & push start after 30 seconds it shuts off? stupid. My wife's 2013 Chrysler Town & country limited is much better remote start, it warms up or cools down depending on season if you don't get in after 20 min the van shuts off If i did not get it the remote start for free i would have never considered it knowing how it works now. Just my opinion save your money and get another dealer option BTW i have the puddle lights love them....

From a mild city perspective, I suppose it's because of environmental and security concens... why leave your car running and wouldn't someone steal it...
yes and no... why will you remote start your car in a dangerous area? if its not safe, don't remote start it. you're under control.

its impossible to steal. the system wont allow the car to be driven off unless a key is put into the ignition and turned. as soon as someone hit the brake to switch the gear selector, the car shuts down (unless a key is in the ignition). thats why when you watch my install video you will see the brake switch will be utilized by the remote starter harness.

Supplied key fob with remote starter installed.

I have a 2016 Kia Sorento SXL Limited with the remote starter installed. you do NOT need a separate, second key fob for the remote starter to work. On the supplied key fobs supplied all you have to press the lock button twice and the rear hatch button once. (Do not hold the rear hatch button down, just press and release.) Hope this helps.

just installed the OEM remote start, and it was a breeze. i refuse installing aftermarket remote starts, but this OEM kit was a legit plug & play unit. the instructions were great, and if you know the basics of tools/auto repair, you can easily install this. my install video will be coming within a few hours.

buy it here:

I don't think its an environmental concern not different than being stuck in traffic, also from a security stand point the car is running but locked who's getting in. Like i said my wife's van starts warms the car up if she's not inside with in 20min it turns off if she hits remote start again it will only run 10min, a 3rd time it won't start at all brilliant concept.
