Is it possible to lock the doors with the remote while the engine is running?

I pulled up to a convenience store yesterday and planned to leave the engine running while I ran in. I got out, and the SXP-X started a long warning beep....I tried to lock the doors with my remote, and they wouldn't lock.

I just spent the better part of 20 minutes looking though all the 21+ Sorento posts, and didn't find anything pertinent to my question. It's quite possible that I overlooked something, though ;)

Thanks in advance!

I was trying everything to get my car to lock with the engine running. At first I thought it did it with the spare key inside the car, but nope. The only thing that worked for my car, 2022 Kia Rio, was to use the actual key on the door lock. It’s not as quick as hitting the button, but it’ll have to do.

Have you tried the Kia Access app on the phone? On my Prestige I can turn on the engine - heat or cool the seats - heat the steering wheel - set the climate controls... the list is long. And track all my trips... I use it all the time... Also lock the car remotely... like if you were at the airport - you can check the car in the parking lot and make sure it's locked.

I realize there are areas it wouldn't be prudent to do this (here included) due to high rates of crime and such, and I would assume we are all cognizant of those areas in within our own locales.

However, when it's blue cold outside and you've got a couple kids in the back, and you need to stop and grab a gallon of milk, it would be really nice to keep the kids warm and the vehicle secure without having to leave your key inside (which is not very smart, either).

I know it seems petty......but I really liked having that option.

I agree with you, and it's strange that Kia hasn't made this straightforward. But the way to do it is turn off the car, get out, then remote start. It isn't actually that much more work.

I have a 2019 Sorento with keyless start. I've discovered you can leave the car running, get out, and lock the doors. To do so: 1. Make sure all doors are closed and that no one will be getting out. 2. While in the driver's seat with the engine running, set the heat/cool controls as desired. 3. Press the door lock button to lock all doors. 4. Make sure you have the fob and open the driver's door with the normal exit handle (it will unlock only that door). 5. Get out, close the door, and a beep will sound to let you know that the engine is still running. 6. Use the key that is integrated in the fob, place it in the door lock, and rotate it counterclockwise to lock the driver's door. 7. You will need to use the key to regain access to the car upon your return. Neither the buttons on the fob nor the unlock button on the door handle will work. Simply insert the key into the lock and rotate it clockwise to unlock all doors. Just did this today so I know it works with the 2019 keyless entry option. Don't know about other configurations. First time you do this you may want to leave the window open just to be sure you don't get locked out using this procedure. Don't think you will, but just as a precaution.

We would need to remove the outer door handle cover to accomplish what you're talking about with the physical key. Our outer keyhole is not exposed like yours, maybe worth a try though.

Here in WV, we've already had several nights (and even a few days) of less than 30°, so I have used the remote start feature a good bit, and you're right, it stays locked.

I was merely looking for the convenience of being able to lock the doors on a cold & blustery day with the engine running while I ran in to pay for gas or go pick up a meal order, etc.

Thanks (y)(y)

You can’t lock them while it is running without the key being in the vehicle. If you’re just trying to keep it warm: turn it off, get out, then use the remote start either from your key fob or phone.
