Correlation vs. causation. Don't be so quick to attribute undesirable behavior to perceived significance in novel occurrences, or you'll be chasing your tail as I see so many others do.

"Ever since I changed the radio presets, the windows squeak when rolled up." Don't be this person, lol.

OK, finally got this resolved. Evidently, the anti-theft update did not directly affect the wiper-blade function, but may have caused a secondary effect on the software that controls headlight and wiper functions...a secondary effect...at least this is what the service manager told me. They did a "manual mode reprogramming of the CS BCM Unit" and this corrected the wiper malfunction. They also sent a report to KIA which previously did not seem to be aware of this issue. So it got fixed, took more time than I hoped, but did not cost me anything. Let me say again, if you haven't yet got the "anti-theft" update, you might want to hold off a few months until these things shake out. Also, in spite of getting the update, a potential thief would not see anything to dissuade him except the little window decal...not a big deal. I've opted to use a steering wheel "club" device as a visible deterrent.

Received letter today regarding my Sorento:

(from back of document) For vehicle software upgrade status: https://ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs/SWLD

TL;DR - "We fixed the compatibility issue with Kia Genuine Remote Start Accessories. Aftermarket, no idea."

Currently my aftermarket remote start/security combo has been handy so I will personally continue to sit tight and reevaluate in the coming year but for those holding their breath with a Kia Genuine Remote Start Accessory worth taking a peek.

Can't tell if it's just the Sorento, or if other models are ready.

New to the group here. After reading everyone's wiper issues after the anti theft recall I felt obligated to let as many people know it 100% is an issue with the software update. Elgin, Il Kia performed the recall, and software update without even informing my gf. She brought it to dealer for oil change, and tire rotation. Upon completion they had no problem showing her all of the services, and brake pad life that she was about due for. They changed the oil, and updated software, but forgot to rotate the tires. Hmmm sorry mam you'll have to schedule an appointment, and drop it off again for the rotation. That aside. The service writer was trying to locate her vehicle with the remote, but it wasn't working. They're really busy, so it happened so quickly the fact the remote wasn't working was completely overlooked . Next day we get some rain, and the front wipers are not working at all. Also now noticing the remote does not work either. Replaced batteries still didn't work. This is just the beginning. I'll post the rest in a little while, but end of story is there is an issue with the software update, and supposedly Kia engineers were trying to figure it out. Took about 3-4 hours for the solution
Thanks
Dave

What has been decided about the easy theft of KIA's. Is the company paying for a fix for this?
There's a software update that attempts to prevent the starting of the engine when the car is locked via it's remote. It does technically work but be sure to document proof of every feature of your vehicle working prior to the update. (just in case since we've seen buttons, wipers stop working mysteriously after an update - not always of course.)

There's also free steering wheel locks that may be available.

So yep, there's those but it won't do anything to necessarily reduce insurance hikes or risk of break-in, you're on your own on that front.

There's also talk of reimbursing for an aftermarket alarm kit for unsupported models but haven't heard of anyone who's been able to do that yet. (not saying it's difficult, just haven't heard of any anecdotes about that)

There's a lawsuit settlement in the works with money and stuff for affected owners but not sure if that's moving yet. Other than that the most you can do is probably scratch off Hyundai/Kia off your next car shopping list.

Anyone know anything about that/what it looks like/how it works/eligible vehicles?
Here’s a press release with the models and years listed.

You can also enter your VIN on the same website they used for the “steering wheel locking device” they were offering earlier. They’ve updated it for this ignition cylinder reinforcement.

Here’s the message I got for my 2019 Soul

Dealer did the software update on mine when I took it in for service. The only difference I can see is remote lock/unlock taking 2 presses instead of one, and rear doors have to be manually unlocked when I park the car. Other than that, everything seems OK.

We had a 2023 Seltos damaged by an attempted theft. We tried hard to get the vehicle included in the settlement because it was really damaged for the same reasons the included cars were damaged. But we were denied. I don't feel so bad knowing everybody who qualified only got $20. Hardly worth the time to fill in the paperwork.
