I have both well I have the Sorento and my wife has the Forester. I prefer my Sorento as it sits higher and has more room. The Forester is just right for the wife not to big and has all wheel drive so she won't get stuck in the snow

These vehicles really aren't direct competitors, Forester is smaller and lower to the ground, more like a wagon. The Sorento is larger, higher seating and ground clearance.

The Forester is not even on my radar because it's a little bit small and gets terrible gas mileage. It's an old-school powertrain that is reliable but it's not a next-gen powertrain like you'll get on the Sorento

The 2.4 4-cylinder on the Sorento is AMAZING - it gives better numbers all around than last-years base powertrain which was a V6 2.7. The new 2.4 is an all-aluminum block and pistons with diriect injection and variable valve timing which gives you amazing horsepower, torque and fuel efficiency. Anyone who follows the general rule "V6 is better than 4-cylinder" is living in the past and doesn't understand next generation engine technology at all. Like I said, if you bought a 2010 or older Sorento you'd get a V6 2.7L engine, but it has less power, torque and efficiency than the current 2.4L 4-cylinder.

You can't even compare the old-school Forester powertrain to the new technology you get in the powertrain of the Sorento, and don't believe those who say "you need the V6", because the 4 is very impressive.

Imo

I own a 2009 Forester...which AFAIK is exactly like the 2011.

I am trading it in for a 2011 Sorento LX-V6.

IMO:
1. Forester is smaller than Sorento. - true
2. Forester has high fuel consumption than Sorento - not true
3. Forester has 4 speed auto, whereas Sorento has 6. - true
4. The outlook of Forester is better. - whatever
5. Forester has better acceleration. - pretty even(I tested a I4)
6. Forester is more reliable than Sorento. - (IMO Subaru is headed in the wrong direction)
7. Forester has less harsh ride, but the handling is floaty. - NOT EVEN CLOSE - Forester rides like a truck - every pothole speed bump is like traversing the Grand Canyon. The Sorento on the other hand was very smooth and VERY quiet. A LOT of wind noise in the Forester...oh yeah...the tires also SUCK!

The initial thrill of owning a Subaru did not last long. The Forester very quickly proved to be a cheaply put together vehicle....rattles and sqweaks abundant.

Not that it was a terrible vehicle, but I was not impressed by Subaru in the least...maybe I expected too much. I even had people(customers) telling me your gonna love it...well, I did not love it...I liked it.

Agreed with pretty much everything said here, plus one more thing... and I don't wanna be mean here, but... has anyone SEEN a Subaru Forester? Ack! Sorento wins, hands down!

there both great till the warranty runs out or you have a crappy service center...i bought the sx sorento due to the fact of the warranty...hope it does well
