You have both hoses attached to the throttle body?(has one in and one out) I remember one having to snake up through the intake manifold.

You are exactly right, shapeshade....it was the second hose that was not connected! What apparently happened was that it came loose as I was removing the upper plenum, and I didn't realize it...I'm pretty good about remembering the things I take loose, and I know I didn't take it loose. Anyway, I put water in the truck, plugged the hose, and took it for a test drive...only to find that it was gushing water profusely from underneath the throttle body!

The hose apparently fell down below the manifold when it came loose, making me think that it was in the original position...but like you said, it was supposed to snake under the upper plenum to the 90-degree nipple. One I used my bent-nosed needle-nosed pliers to pull it on the nipple and clamp it, everything was PERFECT!

I want to thanks you guys for all the help; even though I don't come here too often (the truck is a great vehicle, and give me very little trouble, so I guess that's a good thing, lol), I really appreciate your help in solving these issues...you guys ROCK!

2000 Kia Sportage too manny problems

I tried this heater core work around posted good idea but the new heater core I ordered through rock auto did not fit too thick

so i pressure tested the old and cleared it and revieled no leaks, reinstalled old one then it seemed ok but reclogged and leaks or at least i smell it
 
I bought mine from Rockauto too, and it was too thick, also...to fix it, I used a small 4" grinder, and removed the top and bottom "rails" on the tank sides (be careful and don't cut a hole in the tanks). Once I did
that, it slid right in, and works perfectly.

For those just wanting to bypass their heater core...

Take out the battery.

Disconnect these two hoses (the silver hose clamps in this pic).

Attach loop of 5/8" heater hose. 90* elbow used so the 'loop' wouldn't kink and cut off flow.

If you're quick, you can avoid spilling more than a cup or so of coolant. Plug one end (I used the hex socket in the pic), and quickly put the open end over the pipe. Unplug, and quickly put the other end over the other pipe when you pull off that hose. Use a second 90* elbow to plug the hoses that go to the heater core.

about the elbow you have used?

So the right heater hose diameter to use is 5/8" inner diameter heater hose?

Yes, 5/8".

I bought the elbow at an auto parts store, so no I haven't seen that. It seems like decently thick plastic. The only way I can think that it would fail besides being bent/crushed, is HUGE constant temperature changes, like from -10*C to operating temp, every day for months.
