Headlight bulb retaining clip on 05 Spectra

I innocently tried to install a replacement bulb in my 05 Spectra (passenger side) headlight. I mean, how hard can it be? Well, after unscrewing the waterproof cap, I saw the wire retaining clip holding in the bulb. I fussed with that for a while with no luck. I didn't know the trick. Then I made the mistake of unscrewing the screw that holds down the clip. It went TWANG and flew off. I recovered the wire, which looks like a twisted-up paper clip, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how it goes back in. Neither can my mechanic, at least not in the 15 minutes or so he fussed with it when I stopped by for a quick look.

He suggested I get a schematic diagram of the headlight assembly at the Kia dealer, then he could at least see how it's supposed to be oriented. I went to the dealer's parts department, but the diagram they printed shows everything except the clip. That's no help. The service department said they could "diagnose" the problem for $98, but were also willing to negotiate. No thanks. Something tells me they wouldn't negotiate to my price range, $1 for a couple turns of a screwdriver. They said it is a common problem they see all the time, but no free advice.

I thought I would take off the other headlight to compare, except the bumper was previously hit just hard enough to make the headlight assembly removal tough without some body work first. Any suggestions? Links to a how-to video, or a better diagram? Thanks much.

Headlight bulb retaining clip on 05 Spectra - Problem solved

Thank you for the advice to remove the entire headlight assembly. I don't think I ever would have been able to replace the clip without doing so. Maybe my fingers are too big and the space is too small. There were only 2 10mm bolts and on 10mm nut to remove. Then only a little wiggling and tugging to get the assembly out.

Then it is a relatively simple matter of orienting the clip and screwing it down with a phillips screwdriver. If the clip looks like a "V", then the two legs point to the passenger side, with the longer leg over the top. It hooks behind a tab.

After installing, i took a picture. Sorry it's a little grainy.
