Fog Lights stop working after ...

My fog lights quit functionning after i had replace my HID's. I really don't get it, they works the minute before but then they don't light up anymore. My hi-beam are fine, turn signal ok , LED etc but not the fog lights !!

Does it light up someone, could it be a sort of reset ?

i dont' believe it .... i didn't touch anything else !!!!!!!

any idea would be greatly appreciated

Start with the basics:

Are your headlights set to "ON" and not auto, parking lights, or off? .
Is the light on the dash indicating your fogs are on?

Then more advanced:
The fog lamps are protected and powered by an IPS module near the passenger cabin fuse box. IPs-6 relay is for fogs.
Check that it's properly seated and swap for another relay.
If that fails, you just need to start checking connections and bypassing failure points (switch, lamp relay) https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/15/19/79/59/untitl10.jpg

First of all thank you for your reply

Now, headlight are always on auto but i tried every possibility and they never light up. There is no light in the dash that light up to indicated that the fog are "ON" even if they are on the "stick".

I really don't know where is the IPS module near the passenger cabin fuse box, i saw fuse box in the engine bay, the one under the stering but i don't see anymore fuses box on the passenger side. I remove my "glove box" and behind it's the heater fan.

Hi Spyde!
I "see" you are located in Montreal and from your postings that English is not your primary language... That said... There may be some things missing in translation...
Did you originally have HID headlights or were you upgrading to them?
You mention that the High Beams are OK but no mention of the low beams being operational...

"If" you did try to upgrade to HID headlights you may have caused some problem that blew a fuse supplying a related circuit... Fuses may be labelled for one function (circuit) but quite often they may also protect other circuits not on the label... so a blown fuse may be the cause of no Fog lights...

On newer cars there is also circuitry that monitors the amount of current feeding the headlights and by using a set of HID headlights instead of the standard filament type bulbs this "might" upset the monitoring circuitry as the HIDs draw less current than the standard bulbs...

I'd suggest checking ALL fuses under the hood/bonnet, re-check your wiring to the HIDs, and possibly re-install the standard headlights (if you changed to HISs)...

I am presuming that there may be some slight differences in translation (French to English) and we may be missing something in translation... Do the HID headlights work on high and low beams? Because the fog light indicator doesn't work on the speedometer cluster I tend to think that you may just have a blown fuse...

Keep on writing and we'll keep on giving you suggestions...:)

hi DavesSpectra,

English is not my primary language you are right, but feel free to correct me or ask me detail about anything. I wish i could be better

Here are some details that i hope will clearify things:

- I bought the car new in 2011 and paid for the HID's installation, work well for sevral years.
- 2 weeks ago i reallized that one HID on one side was dimmed and the next day it was not working anymore
- went on Ebay and order a new pair, 35W 6000K the same has installed
- installed them and since then the fog light are not working anymore
- The hid's are working fine, the hi-beam too, turn signal and DRL like normal. It is all working like it suppose too
- i haven't found any other circuit or lights in the car that is not working
- i will check this week-end all fuses and the wiring, but i am not interessted in reinstalling the original bulb because it was working before with the HID's
- my doubt is either a bad luck ( a module that quit functionning )or something like you mention about circuitry that monitors the amount of current feeding and saw something strange and maybe activated some kind of protection. Why do i say that is because in the owner manual i read something about the disconnection of the battery and item that should be reset like Auto up/down window, Sunroof Climate control system, clock. They don't mention the fog but ... i tought maybe they forgot ?!

My cluster is different then your's but the fog symbols is the same and it doesn't light anymore

I had check a lot of fuses and the wiring. they were all fine, the wiring seems to be in good condition.

It's sad but i will have to get to the dealer. Why sad, because they are not good. I am affraid that they will spend a lot of time and they will end up saying : " because the alteration to the light system we cannot find the reason why your fog lights has quit" ... then i will ask why did it work for several years together? the answer might be : we cannot explain

Anyways i will keep you informed

Thank's for your help and suggestions

Frank
