Tranny fluid low - speed sensor on tranny setting off ck engine light- must of lost fluid when cv pulled did not top off tranny fluid loss- fill from speed sensor 10 mm from speed sensor hole- i hope this helps- after you top off disconnect negitive battery for ten min put back on light off should stay off. Tranny fluid must be full or ck enging light comes on

Hi people wanted to take a minute to post this- i keep reading posts about people changing cv half axles and than the ck engine light comes on and its code is P0501 which is a wheel speed sensor three customers came in shop with same issue this week they all put new cv s in and than ck engine light came on everyone bought cv half axles from auto zone the re manufactured ones they sell THEY DO NOT HAVE TONE RINGS ON THE ENDS OF THE AXLES. There is nothing to give a reading to the wheel speed sensor. The new ones they sell have the tone rings the remans do not - its ridiculous they dont but they do not. Also when auto zone checks the code P0501 it tells them the vss (vehicle speed sensor ) is bad whell they give you a sensor that goes in tranny that controals the speedometer its the wrong sensor they dont sell or have a listing for the wheel speed sensor which is the the sensor you need (dealer item $98.00) on a non abs system there still is a wheel speed sensor on a manual tranny and an automatic its on the passenger side wheel hub the tone ring has 44 teeth, the manual axle and auto axle have the same amount of teeth , but when people change the cv axles using autto zones reman cv there is no tone ring on end of axle so the wheel speed sensor cant read anything so it throws the code. This is causing a lot of problems for people hope this helps some of you auto zone may not be the only one selling remans without tone rings so check them if you had this problem.

Mikieet, your information was spot on. Saved me a lot of headache and money. I had already swapped the speed sensor, to no success, and found you post shortly after. The axle, that I bought the car with, was from NAPA. So yes, many companies still sell, doo doo axles.

Ok so I just purchased my first (used) car from a local auto repair shop where I live. The guy had rebuilt the engine for the previous owner who couldn't pay for the repairs... anyways blah blah blah got a lein on the car and its mine now. But the check engine light is on (he told me it was on because the engine rebuilt) but anyways ...... got the codes read and it was a DTC P1000. The guy cleared my PCM and told me to drive it. Drove it around town for like 2 days and it came back on. Could it be a bad O2 sensor? or did I simply not drive it vigorously enough... will it go back off? Keep in mind I know jack shit about cars so your knowledge is VERY appreciated )) Thanks

I could not find a p1000 in my 02 rio book's was that the correct number code? If the engine was rebuilt probably a timming belt failure please make sure all the electrical connectors are hooked up correctly. Good luck with it, Reguard's Ronjohn keep us informed.

The paper he gave me with the code said that a P1000 meant I need to complete the cars test drive cycles but how long is a drive cycle? I drove it around town and the check engine light just came back on. I'll also check my electrical connectors. Thanks again.

 

Go to www.kiatechinfo.com and register (free). They have the check engine codes, and a thousand other bits of info you might find interesting. If nothing else, you can at least double check what the mechanic is telling you.
Could you have a P0100 code? A 0100 or 0101 is a mass airflow issue. You could have a vacuum leak, or a dirty MAF sensor. I have even heard of dirty air filters causing these type codes. Check for restriction in intake, then for loose or missing hoses, then clean the MAF sensor. Good luck.
