Hi everyone!
I have a 2004 Canadian manufactured Kia Rio Cinco (manual transmission & Non ABS) which now resides in California.
In december we changed CV axle and front wheel hub and bearing. In the process the ABS speed sensor attached to the passenger side spindle was severed. We were told that because the car did not have ABS, we did not need the sensor. After repairs complete minus the ABS speed sensor, check engine light came on (Code came back P0501- speed sensor).
Purchased from manufacturer and replaced the ABS speed sensor, had code wiped, came back on after driving sixty miles. Sent back part and requested new one assuming it was defective. Same issue once changed. Light came back on and code reads P0501. Checked all voltage and it reads 12 V ok.
Need to pass smog test and unfortunately check engine light on (or check engine light tampered with) is an automatic fail. Nothing else wrong with vehicle. No emission issues, no spedometer issues, no odometer issues. We are 100% stumped at this point as to what is causing the check engine light. Any help/experience/feedback is greatly appreciated!
