Well done VNROAN...

I knew the noise was eminating from the input side of the transmission because its evident in mainly in 2nd 3rd and 4th at those rpm's and not speed dependant.

Looking at the TSB it doesn't mention Petrol engines????
Mine has the noise and is a petrol engine/manual gearbox
now Ive seen this I shall check GDS site again.

Thanks

Hi VNroan.. Have you got a copy of the official TSB I can wave in front of my service manager... I gave him the TSB number a month ago and he couldn't find any details of it... havn't spoken to him since.

I checked GDS site but its North American therefore wouldn't be interested in this TSB

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the copy Vroan. Dropped it of at local service centre.

Service Manager called back later in day and arranged fitting of new clutch.....

Service Manager called back next day to say, that this TSB is for diesel engines not petrol and the clutch is different.

So I am now still waiting..... At least they acknowledge now the problem, but are waiting TSB for Petrol models new designed clutch...

How long it will take is anyones guess.. the saga goes on. !!!!

Still concerned that it takes some-one like Vroan in S Africa to help me notify KIA UK of the existence of TSB's !!!!!!!!!

Have traded my Sportage in for a Ceed SW LS.... they will have to try and sell the the thing now themselves with the "Characteristic Noise".

Still no TSB for Petrol engine clutch plate... but now I dont care anymore.

Hi all. Just read through all the threads. So is it the Gearbox or the Clutch? Mine has done 30000 miles and sounds like it is getting worse. It now sometimes does it when I start the Car, it rattles at idle, as soon as I rev it or touch the Clutch Pedal it goes. If it is just rattley springs in the Clutch Friction Plate I won't worry to mutch but if it is a Bearing that may go bang then I may need to do something about it. I tow a Caravan with mine so this could be making it worse. I am getting sick of dealers using the 'Charectersitic' excuse. My car is now out of Warranty but it sounds like Kia are not interseted anyway. Has anyone out there actually had the problem sorted???

hello all-
this thread is very informative so thank you first of all. I am in the US and have a 05 sportage automatic. I am at 83k miles and in about the last week began to hear a similar noise from my transmission. it begins at about 15mph and sounds as though it is coming from the transmission, specifically, the gearbox. all my maintenance is up to date and fluids are at the correct levels. I am reluctant to take it to the dealer because that will take 8 hours and cost $200 just to look at it. Im not certain where my vehicle was manufactured (i havent really investigated that), but i guess my question is based on what i have read on this thread is it reasonable to believe there is a problem with this model regardless of what country the vehicle is in?

any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Noisy Gearbox

Hi all.
I have also had this problem with my 05 Deisel for almost a year now. Looking at other forums & Threads no one seems to have had the problem rectified. some say Gearbox, others Clutch. Having an Engineering background I would go for a taper Bearing not loaded correctly either by a shim breaking up or a adjusting nut coming loose or outer race spinning in the casting. I would say it is definiteley on the G,box input side as mine somtimes rattles when the Engine starts. It goes as soon as you press the Clutch Pedal. Car is now out of Warranty but tht doesn't seem to make any difference to Kia! Does anyone know of anyone who has had the problem solved ?????

Here in the UK I have the similar problem with my manual gearbox 2005 plate Sportage 2.00CRDi. I have now covered 67K (Miles) and have a clatter from the transmission between 1500 rpm and 2000 Rpm when changing gear I have noticed that if I engage 4wd during the rattle it goes, however (I think this may be due to winding up the transmission very slightly) I have come to the conclusion the fault lies possibly with the torsion springs in the clutch centre plate or the dual mass flywheel but am not sure if duel mass is fitted to this model. I have decided to not fix what aint broke and wait for a development. Dave Woody
