That's the reason I prefer GPS units that you add later. The one that I have was a run-out model for less than $80 and I use it in our various cars. It's about 4 years old now, I suppose, but the maps are quite current for my requirements. Rather than update the maps, I'll just get a new unit when needed.
Most useful feature is the over-speed alert available for most major roads. I also like to track "Distance to go" when heading home after a long journey. Oh yes, handy when finding your way in strange cities.
BTW, as is usual practice, I set my "Home" address to the nearest service station, rather than my actual home address. Thieves will search your mobile device for personal information. You may also want to regularly delete your "Recent Places".
