I've noted some Tellurides have the amber lights around the outside of the headlight pods and others have the plain white. Is the distinction based on the specific models ?

I can't say this as "gospel" but....
Front turn and corner marker lights are to be amber. Whether by lens color or by bulb color in the USA. Lights off a white lens would look white, and with light on would show amber from a colored bulb.
According to all the press photos, the daytime running lights that come on the Telluride are orange / amber. However, seeing the pictures of the Tellurides reaching the dealership, the daytime running lights are white. To me, the orange daytime running lights were part of what makes it cool...
