I wouldn't expect a stone chip in that area, and even if there was I wouldn't expect the paint to bubble like that. It looks like a manufacturing problem to me.

 

Definitely a warranty repair.

Just nice to have some others views on it before showing it to the dealers.

 

If it was chip, you would not have a bubble. It would crack. the bubble is filled from inside. It started underneath of it. Not from outside.
Warranty claim for 100%.

 

Judging from threads on corrosion and errosion, the quality coming out of the 'wonderful' Zilina plant seems suspect. Makes me wonder about other surprises!!! On the licence plate bulb holder change (See new thread), I sent a broadside to Kia global.com

 

Took it in to the dealers today, but being a Sunday there were only salesmen around (saw the chap we got the picanto from which helped)
He couldn't say too much about it but he took some pictures to show the powers that be Monday morning - hopefully I'll hear something then.

..definitely looks like the surface preparation before painting was faulty ! Another option is a contamination with a drop of paint remover (hope not !)...I'm very eager to know what the service will say !

Generally speaking, seems that ceed is having problems with surface preparation (see topics regarding corosion, errosion, etc.) And this is not the only one...here, seems that so red colour is having serious problems since is peeling off from the bumpers/spoilers and the lacquer is going off from the body !

Had a phone call on Friday, have to take it in sometime this week for it to be checked out by someone more `in the know`.
It shouldn`t be their on a car this age so I`ll fight to get something done about it no matter what!

 

Took it in this morning...at first the chap at the dealers said it looked like there was dirt in the paint...couldn`t have been as I`ve only recently noticed it (over the last few months) & I`m a nut when it comes to cleaning my cars!!!!

He took some more pictures and then round to their bodywork place they use....they said it looks like the start of a rust bubble.

Should hear back from them soon after the paperwork trail...but, looks like a complete boot respray. WooHoooo.

I have a few spots on My 2008 Cee'd with raised tiny bubbles, not chips but it looks like either sand trapped underneath the paint or the beginning of rust. At least three spots, but could be more.

It's hard to tell from the photos but I think you can imagine from the description. I have the piston grey metallic paint. Taking it to the dealer to have the windshield replaced on Thursday and have asked them to look at the paint as well. Will be interesting to hear what they say about it. I've already had it back once to have the trunk mat replaced thanks to a rusty screw.

The Cee'd has three years warranty for the paintjob I think. Besides it's only been on the road for less than 350 km which makes it doubly weird if it's actually rust.

I did take it to a place to have the paint sealed first week. I hope they didn't mess it up.

..mines now booked in for 2 days next week, Thursday & Friday, with a possibility of even Friday, Courtesy car all soeted, just hope it`s a top job.!!!!!!

 

Ugh... Well, hope they make a good job with yours. I have no idea who carries out that stuff over her. From the thread I can tell that the bubbles on your car were bigger but the ones one mine appeared out of nowhere and in zero time so I'm thinking they will grow...

Still love my KIA though.

 

Yeah, I was told at the first inspection it was a dirt particle, then the sprayers said it was rust, so probably both, but it definately started from `Nothing` as I`m quite fussy when it comes to keeping the beast clean.

 

Yeah, that's what I think as well. Will definitely keep an eye o them and see what happens.

 

OK, I'm annoyed now. I took it to the dealer. He looked at the bubbles and said, meh, we can probably polish them away. I said I just paid 3000 SEK (420 USD) to have the paint sealed professionally and I'd rather not redo that. Then left the car so they could replace the windshield. Got a call this afternoon and they didn't replace it. Crack was not big enough and a new windshield would not be as good a replacement as the old one since it was factory fitted. Crap... So now I have a new car with a cracked windshield. They did leave the decision up to me in the end after telling me it would be stupid to replace it. Thanks. No courtesy car, spent a lot of money traveling from and back to the dealer and was without the car for the whole day only to drive it back home again in the same condition I left it. Not going back there again.

Thats shocking!!!!!! very poor excuse.... and I would keep a very close eye on the paint defect, that really should be looked at - and removed!!!!!

You said you`ve been messed about and covered a lot of miles, is there another dealers that you could take it to?

I'm thinking about taking it to a carglass specialist and see if they can at least make it less visible. Or even fix it (not so likely).

 

Well it went in first thing this morning....said I may get a call late tomorrow or Saturday.
Personally I`d rather pick it up as late as possible, let the paint cure.....unsure what`ll happen to my boot badge..(see Avatar) as it`s well and truely stuck.
If they can`t mask it and have to rip it off I`ll just have to order a new one..I`ve left instructions to leave all badges off the rear. Perhaps I`ll go for PRO-CEED on the back should I have to get a new one????

Oh...58 plate Rio as a Courtesy car...flippin` horrible inside, not keen at all.
So much so I`ve got the wifes Picanto for work tonight lol

 

Cars now back with a nice shiney boot. Looks spot on, really happy with it. They`d given it a really good clean inside & out as well.
Gonna keep an eye on it obviously but fingers crossed no repeat performances!!!!

You cannot claim for paint or rust under the Kia 7 year warranty, that is for mechanical problems only.

Paint is covered under a 5 year warranty (yours will have expired in 2013) and currently corrosion is covered for 12 years, not sure what it was on 2008 cars.

As stated above the warranties will be null and void unless the car was inspected annually and the service book stamped, unlike the mechanical warranty only a Kia dealer can do this body inspection.

Another factor that nullifies the warranty is body repairs. If they were carried out by an non Kia approved body shop Kia would entertain no claims since they have no control over the repair. Your claim would than be against the company that carried out the repair. On a 7 year old second hand car its impossible to tell what its history has been thus you will possibly have a battle on your hands.

Your first step is to visit a Kia dealer, let them inspect the bubbles and report their finding to Kia. Hopefully they will accept the problem under warranty.

 

I had my Cee'd serviced yesterday and while waiting for the car I overheard a phone conversation about the paint inspection. Basically if it's not kept up to date the warranty is void. It must be performed by a Kia dealer and if not done with the service it's £45. Mine was carried out free, as last year, as part of the annual service.
