I have a 2023 Sorento HEV SX-P with just about 4500 miles in 8 months of ownership. This afternoon, after starting the car and driving, I noticed the CEL/MIL light on the dash.
Interestingly, the in-unit vehicle diagnostics screen/menu (under Kia Connect menu) and the Kia Connect app displayed a fairly detailed error message. I thought this is a pretty interesting and neat feature vs some vague warning message or symbol.
I used the Torque app along with my plug-in bluetooth OBD scanner and got the same error codes:
Has anyone encountered this error code with a MQ4 Sorento? Searching online, seems this error code relates to a lean air/fuel mix, which can be the result of a multitude of problems (more air than expected: MAF sensor, O2 sensor, vacuum leak; not enough fuel/fuel delivery problem: fuel injection, fuel pump, fuel line leak, and so on...). The car is still under warranty and will be going into service. But the "full system check is recommended to be done when convenient" warning is an interesting message -- is this error not a critical issue that needs immediate attention? Some dealerships service appointments are booked up or don't fit with my schedule. What are the risks of driving with a lean air/fuel mixture? In the limited driving this afternoon, i did not perceive or experienced any loss of power/acceleration and no rough idling (although technically since this is a hybrid most of the idle time is in EV mode or engine off during stop/start).
This would be the first time I've ever had to use KIA service. While there are several causes for this error, is this diagnosis and fix/repair fairly quick? I'm not sure if dealerships are still dealing with or being overwhelmed with recall work related to KIA theft vulnerabilities....
