I was driving back from a long day of fishing yesterday and my Sportage started missing and losing power. When i pulled the code it was P0087 Low fuel pressure. I think i may have lost the hpfp (high pressure fuel pump) cars at the dealer since i cant get parts. what a crappy way to start a monday.

At least i got to catch some fish

Yea, got it back at lunch. The HPFP went bad. They had them on site. It was covered under warranty. They still refuse to accept the fact that my down hill assist and traction lights come on randomly since they can pull a code. i even had pictures.

NO, no warning at all. I was towing a small boat at the time a and it just got weak and started running rough.

Wanted to provide my story regarding my 2013 kia sorento, it also threw code P0087 and had a 'check engine' light. It just happened while driving on the highway one day...started sputtering and acted like it had trash in the fuel line. I would typically have to press the gas pedal to give it enough gas to start the vehicle, then drive not much over 35 for about 2-3 minutes, then it would sputter a little and eventually start running normally. It rarely had the fuel loss actions after that during that same drive session.
After a lot of research, and buying and myself installing a high pressure fuel pump, had to finally take it to the dealer.
I had initially purchased an Ebay compatible pump and installed it myself (but I thought it may have been a bum part since the problem remained)...then decided to have e mechanic look it over
The dealer actually installed my 2nd after-market fuel pump onto the top of the engine/fuelrail. However, they ALSO said they replaced the vacuum line, so I have to assume that line was leaking causing pressure loss to the sensor.

My Kia Sportage 1,6 GDI had same code. Did not take more than 3000 rpm and no power when gaspedal down. Took out all possible parts that may cause the problem. It was HPFP. I made simple test with bad HPFP: Blow air with your mouth one of the pipes. If air flows through, its broken. Tested the new one and noticed that air does not flow through. Chanced the part and now its like it shoud be.
