Oklahoma Pikepass not friendly to windshield heating grid.

Yes, I have an account with the Oklahoma Pikepass toll system. Their system uses a transponder which is in a plastic with adhesive strip that should be mounted an inch or so from the top center of the windshield. Can't do that because of the camera and the sunshade - so I mounted it towards the driver's side just off the sunshade. Their toll reader does NOT read the transponder on my 2023 Sportage X-Pro Prestige AWD! It is for sure due to the heating grid embedded in the windshield. So they are sending me a replacement transponder that, they said, I should stick on the inside of the sunroof glass. We will see!

The humans who were reviewing the toll videos cross-referenced my account with the license plate of my Sportage! But instead of charging me the regular toll, they charged me with added penalty charge!

I also have an Illinois IPass transponder and their system reads my transponder in real time when I pass through a toll plaza at 70 mph! Illinoi's system is far superior that the Oklahoma Pikepass system which uses a plastic RFID strip!

Those RFID tags are wimpy through the heating grid in our windshield. I received another tag which they recommend sticking it in the inside of the sunroof. We'll see.

Their system really stinks and the humans charging it to my account are entering the toll transaction with penalty charge! It's not my fault that their system is not able to read the tag on the windshield!

My EZPass transponder only worked some of the time mounted on the windshield. Replaced it with an "external" transponder and zip-tied it to the front grill. Problem solved. Also moved my radar detector to the lower left windshield corner and that works better now, too. You can shine a flashlight through the windshield to see the "wire free" zones on both the left and right sides. But its only a few inches wide at the bottom and much less at the top.

The EZ-Pass is a different system than the one used in Oklahoma's Pikepass system. The transponder is a piece of plastic which contains an RFID type of element. It has to be mounted (it has strong adhesive on one side) inside the windshield. Once removed, it is dead and has to be replaced (bad system IMHO). I followed the mounting instruction but since I cannot mount it on the center because of the camera and the plastic shade, I mounted it a little to the left of the plastic shade towards the driver's side. All the toll plazas I went through were all "Plate pay" or "Toll violation". The humans added penalty on the "violation" transactions!
