A little late to the party here, but I know my chime drives me crazy, too. We do have seatbelt laws, but when I'm just running across the neighborhood or just being lazy, I'd prefer to not have the car remind me every 27 seconds.

In fact, my manual states that it should stop after apx. 27 minutes... but it doesn't!!! It just keeps going and going and going....

Anyway, I really don't want to completely disable it, so I've somewhat designed (in my mind only at this point) a way to bypass it:

It's easy enough to find the wires to the buckle portion at the floor. From there, use a switch for toggling on/off. Use the kind of relay that holds the circuit closed while energized but releases when you kill the power.

From there, flip the switch to bypass, flip the switch back or turn the key off to reset.

(hmm, going back, I guess you could tap into the wires at the 'musicbox', but that would also kill the door open chime... you know, just in case you forget your door is open

Before you start disabled wires from the seatbelt, please verify that it's not part of the airbag system.

The seatbelt keeps you in the seat properly during a collision. effing around with wires and sensors is dangerous.

disable the bell, fine, don't eff with the seat.

Wire Wires Wiress and Sensors

I agree don't go messing with wires around the seat, even removing a seat can sometimes set off the airbag, I just bought my first Kia :p but i used to do alot of stereo installs and i know in the 06+ sunfires if your not careful taking the stereo out you can set off the airbag, just to make my point :) nobody wants to get hit with an airbag when they're just trying to make a noise go away :p or pay for a new airbag for that matter

Removing the dinger

It's easier to remove the dinger by dropping the glove box, instead of pulling the radio. Pull "out" the two fasteners on the sides on the glovebox (owners manual shows you how), drop the glove box, and the dinger is located on the metal strut on the upper left side of the glovebox location.

i am driving a 2007 kia rio and i also have a seatbelt reminder (the dinging) but when i start the car and the seatbelt lamp starts to blink, i fasten the belt and unplug it again and the lamp stops to blink. after that i can drive the car as long as i want with no seatbelt on and nobody reminding me about it... i hope it will work for you too. good luck!!!

I HATE.. THE DINGING... !!

What I did was replaced the dinging box with a soft, rapid beeping box you can get at a auto parts store (or you can order it from any number of locations). Simply splice the wires into that box and you've established a happy medium.

Now, the seatbelt ding is generally blocked out by my radio and when that's not on, its subtle enough not to be the nerve-hammering bells we all know and loathe. When my door is ajar, it plays because I'm not ever going to have my door open when my car is running. It also beeps if I leave my keys in the ignition and open the door, which I like because I don't want to leave them in there by accident, yanno?

So, my happy medium is a different beep box. Its 3 rapid beeps, waits about 20 seconds, 3 rapid beeps. But they're very low in volume so even the engine will drown out the sound.

Just my solution.

You could always get a seat belt extender to plug into the receptical. I think the dinging is annoying but here it is the "law" to wear your seat belt , which i think is BS .......
you honestly think its BS because there is a law saying you have to wear your seatbelt? I aint one to cause a stir, but come on dude. Seriously? SEAT BELTS SAVE LIFES!!!

I don't even think this is about whether or not you're wearing your seatbelt. Its about the annoying ding that yells at you when you unbuckle it. If you don't wanna wear your seat belt, its your funeral, and its your money when you get a ticket. But the dinging is a pain in the butt, I don't care if you wear it a lot or not.

I wear mine a lot and I hate that damn dinging sound. Just me.

I'm pretty sure you can just pull out the fuse for the door chime and it'll fix that problem, but the seatbelt chime i'm not sure about. But I noticed on my Rio5 alot of fuses are for combined accessories. Like when I blew the fuse for my dome lights it also made 2 or 3 other things not work. They got 3 or 4 things all on the same fuse. I was changing my dome lights and put some led bulbs in and accidentally blew the fuse, and I noticed that my clock on the dash also went out and the trip odometer kept resetting to 0 everytime I turned off and on the car.

you are all making this really hard on your selves all you have to do is go on the passengers side of the car and lay on your back on the floor, look up behind the dash and you will see a little white plug connected to a black box if you disconnect it the dinging will stop. It really is that simple.

just see if you can get a seat belt extender

The Jeep Grand Cherokee that I had two vehicles ago had the same problem so I fortunately asked for a seat belt extender since I am a big fat bastard and the problem was solved. While the extender was plugged in it never chirped again to tell me that my belt wasn't on but all I did was insert the belt plug into the extender receptical and the belt was on. Did I wear my belt all the time...no but it was sure nice not to be reminded by the damn beeping.

So does anyone know if Kia offers the seat belt extender? Chrysler gave them away for free if you asked for one but they still made up an invoice for 1 cent since it was either a law or inventory thing that they couldn't give parts away. Go figure.

And no it doesn't fit my Kia Sorento...
