I've adopted I wait and see approach. Parkers seem to think that "From their extensive experience" a kia ceed a £11k 1.6 petrol will be worth £3k after 3 years. (!!!)

A car with 4 years warenty left on it for £3k, I'll take 5!

The significantly nicer build and the long warenty should help the depreciation, although obviously a new car is going to suffer. Personally I'm planning to hang on to mine, as long as its reliable (Which all indications point to), its pretty future proof for me.

In fairness, you have highlighted a mondeo which has
1) been replaced by a significantly better model
2) has a 2.5L Engine, which is going to be a hard sell with oil prices as they are
3) more than likely fits into mr browns £500 a year tax band, which again is hurting sales.

A lot of 4x4's are also suffering similarly.

 

I've just bought mine brand new, and it did cross my mind, that the moment it came out of the showroom I'd probably lose loads of dosh, but that's the case with any new car for sure.

I do around 20k miles a year, so my plan is to keep it till I've got 90k on the clock, which should be 5 years approx, then give it to the wife, who does 2k miles a year, that way we'll get the most out of the warranty.

Once she inherits the car from me, I'll then px her current car for another new Cee'd perhaps. Saying that I'd bet that in 5 years time a few more manufacturers will be offering these long warranties. So perhaps they'll be a bigger choice!
