Backup Camera Issue

Wanted to see if anyone else has seen this. Have a 2024 Kia Sportage Prestige, and this has happened twice now. Had the vehicle almost a year now and have ~12k miles on it.

Put the car in reverse and the backup camera doesn't appear on the screen. So, I put the car back into Park and try again. No go. What I have found is I have to turn the car off and open the door and then restart.

More issues with this. I have taken this to the dealership twice now and left it overnight so that they can see it fail. I have also provided video evidence showing that not only does the backup camera not come on, but pushing the button on the console for the front camera, that one doesn't work either. Twice now the dealership has told me they cannot reproduce the issue and cannot open a case with Kia to work on it. Every time I pick it up from them it will work for about 2 days and then start up again. So frustrating.

No, but I'll try anything once.

Made an appointment at the dealership for today. Took the car down last night so that it would sit out all night. It was 18 degrees this morning when I went to the dealership to check it in. The Service rep even brought one of the techs out to observe. Camera worked first try:mad:.

Did you try resetting the media system? Small pin hole button on lower left near volume knob.
That didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion. After that I went ahead and did a complete reset and went back through all the settings again. Funny thing, the car has only been sitting in my garage for about 2-3 hours and the cameras didn't work.

We'll see if the complete reset helped.

I did both of the resets. The first one being the mentioned reset using the pin-hole button. The second being a reset to default. Neither one had any affect. I'm going to start a log of when this happens. I agree it's more likely a hardware issue, but convincing Kia of that is the issue.

Maybe also try a manual USB media system update?:

Navigation Updater | Official Kia Navigation Update Website

It updates a lot more than just the maps. Pretty much all the software running in that middle console stack. Others had good luck when the cabin temp sensors, etc. weren't working correctly.

If that doesn't work, then it has to be hardware related?
Downloaded this update, but since my vehicle is already at this version, it wouldn't let me force another update. Thought maybe a refresh would help.

Found something else that might be just a coincident. After I performed the system reset, there were a few changes that I missed, so I pressed the Setup button and then Vehicle.
Received a popup message that said: "Vehicle power must be On to use this feature"

The vehicle was running and in Park.

No I have not. I've come across another issue that coincides with the cameras not working. I came across this accidentally after I did a complete software reset and had to re-configure everything. There was something I had missed on the configuration and when I hit the Setup button on the dash and went to Vehicle, I received the following error. The car was running, so this error shows something is messed up. When the backup/forward cameras start to work I can then go into the vehicle settings.

On your backup camera issue, was it intermittent, or was the camera not working at all. Mine continues to be an intermittent issue. After 5 minutes of the car running, it starts working.

Interesting thing about the fuse panel. When I open the fuse panel just to the left of the steering wheel, I don't see fuses. I see what looks like the back side of the fuse panel. What am I missing

And BTW - I have taken it to the dealership multiple times and left it in their lot overnight. It seems to always work when the technician goes to get the vehicle. One thing I have noticed recently. We've been having a real cold snap here this week. I've been tracking the failures of the camera and it failed almost 12 days straight starting on December 21st. The car is stored in my garage which is not heated. When the temperature overnight is somewhere between 45 & 55 degrees Fahrenheit, the camera fails first thing in the morning. But recently the outside temps have dipped near zero so the garage temp has been in the low to mid 30s. Camera has worked every morning.

I have documented my case and the dealership service department says that no matter how much video evidence I have, the Kia Tech Line won't open a case until the service department can get it to fail. It seems to always fail when it's somewhere around 40 degrees or higher in my garage. the weather around here has been pretty cold and if left outside when it's 35 degrees or colder, the camera works every time. I brought this to their attention and the service rep said sorry, they cannot leave the vehicle inside. They claim no room. Their advice, wait until the weather warms up. I've opened a case with Kia Customer Service, but they can't do anything. There seems to be no where to escalate this issue to. I really like the vehicle. I've had it a little over a year and have ~14k miles on it.

Have you solved this issue ? I have the exact same problem now on my 2023 Kia sorento
Good news, I think. The dealership finally was able to observe the issue. Had to wait until the overnight temps didn't dip below 40 degrees. They have determine that they are going to replace the entire head unit. Interesting little factoid, when I initially looked at this vehicle at the dealership, it came off the truck with a backup camera issue and after 2 weeks they say they ended up replacing the head unit. Don't remember it taking 2 weeks to get a new one, but with the current state of things, and not sure exactly where the part is coming from, they are saying 2 weeks. Once they have the part, they say they have to ship the new one and the old one off to California to deal with the mileage I have on the car, which is ~17k. They will give me a car to drive, but this dealership I believe only carries about 8 cars for customers to drive.
