Will be checking for any codes this evening. But it just happened again for the third time. It said it didn't detect the key fob. Then flashed I needed put the key fob up to the start button. I did that and it started. Could something be wrong with my button or fob, mind you i did put new batteries in both fobs? I have two.fobs, this happens with both fobs.

 

Ah! that would be an immobilizer issue, when it does not turn over do you have a KEY symbol on the panel ?

 

The only symbols on the dash when it doesn't turn over is a check engine light and for some reason the tire pressure light, and im guessing the Immobilizer light (car withkey inside). Then it flashes to check the tires. Even though the tires are fine.

When I am finally am to get it to to start, there is no symptoms or anything on the car. Everything goes back to normal.

 

Make sure the battery connections are bright and clean and the batteries test GOOD, new may not equate to good..

 

Battery checked out perfectly. Terminals are clean as can be. Everything looks good.

 

Okay so.. no codes..no nothing. It has now been happening randomly wkly now. Seems to be more often. The only thing I'm getting is a single click I can hear, I'm assuming from under the hood when I'm trying to start it. Maybe a fuel pump? Fuse or whatever for the fuel pump?

 

The starting system is complex in these vehicle especially push to start. A long series of conditions must be met. A bad start relay (in the engine PDB), starter or start solenoid etc. One needs to test and meter if power and/or 12VDC is getting to the starter and solenoid if not then its an upstream problem. Which can be anything such as Fob not detected, brake pedal not pressed and detected as such, neutral switch and many more subsystem's. Its all guess work if its is not diagnoses systematically. Throwing parts at it fixes nothing and waste of money.

 

saw a video awhile back, not sure on the make/model... push to start button would fail. was common the poster said..replace the PTS button and that fixed it.

 

Turns out the connector to the solenoid is loose. It needs to be replaced. I'm guessing moisture and hitting bumps in the road is knocking it loose, and causing problems. It's located in a bad spot and the heat from the motor isn't helping.

What selenoid is it exactly? I've been having this exact same issue with my 2021 Sorento for a while, it just comes and goes.

 

Actually, it's not fixed. We thought it was the starter/selenoid or the wiring to it. Nope. We gave up, called the dealership and had them check it. They can't find a single thing wrong with it. Go figure. It hasn't done it but once since I got it back from them a few days ago. I have no idea whats going on with it.

 

I thought this was it because there were no comer comments about it. I've been experiencing this issue since I was 4-5 months into the vehicle, then I bought a new battery and it stopped doing it for a while. A month ago, it happened and last night it happened again... leaving me stranded.

 

Dang. I wish I had more info to help. We're still desperately trying to figure it out ourselves. It's my primary vehicle and since we don't know what's going on, it's hard to trust it to take it long distances. I haven't replaced anything other than just cleaning up some parts.

 

Has any one performed a parasitic draw test on this beast ?

 

They keep saying it wont start.. but they don’t really explain. They drive and then it dies.. Dead batter unlikely..

 

You need to have someone that does diagnostics, not guess work.. either you or hire some one

 

Hello! I now have this problem, and have an appointment with Kia. Did yours by chance get resolved?

 

Still doing the same thing. Going back to the kia dealership Wednesday for them to look at it again. It now has a new symptom... if I don't turn off the auto start, when I stop at a light or stop sign.. the whole car turns off now and doesn't want to start back.

 

My auto start/stop is turned off the second i start the car

 

Same exact problem here with a '21 Sorrento SX. It first started for me at a light with auto stop still on. Then it progressed to every once and a while from a cold start it would take anywhere from 3-10 cycles of trying to start. Same thing, dash lights up, lights start to go out, tells me to check the tire pressure, and only a click - no other attempt at turning over. Now it's more frequent, pretty much daily. Yesterday it liked to play this game where it started on a cold start, first try which was a pleasant surprise, but then after turning off and restarting (every time), it took between 5-8 cycles. Dealer has no clue since it's not throwing any codes and it's not 100% of the time (yet). Daily driver though, out of warranty, so I can't just leave it at the shop for weeks on end. Any updates from anyone on a potential fix?

 

This is interesting as I had the same issue on my 2019 Sorento just once and I guess I traded it in right on time

 

So... no fix yet? Mine hasn't died since the Summer (God forbid I just jinxed it). I always turn off the Stop-N-Go feature just to make sure.

 

We are now having this same issue again on a 21 Sorento. When it started early last year, the starter was replaced. Went a good 10 months, now it's happening again. Progressively getting worse. Dealer never can duplicate so they do nothing to help fix...

 

Stop/Start is rubbish, I'd never buy one. They're have to be a permanent disabled mode.

Anyway most have two batteries and testing maybe a challenge for some or many dealers. Take it to someone else.

 

Any fix yet ours is having same issue at 49k miles, new battery is in already still doing it

Won't turn over on some occasions and is getting progressively worse, take multiple tries. And at times at a stoplight with the auto start stop engaged it won't turn back on when you release the brake we have already swapped batteries thinking that was the issue and it wasn't going back to the kia dealership in a week. Any one have any ideas I'm leaning towards bad starter.

 

It's the starter. Had mine replaced on 1/13/25 and it hasn't done it since (fingers crossed). I gave the dealership (2nd dealership to look at it) the run down, they checked electrical, pulled the starter to test it, and it came back defective. Cost be $830.00 for a new starter and an oil change.

 

Ours is under warranty so we replaced battery our self thinking that was the cause cuz the 1st dealer said everything was fine called the second dealership and they said right away sounds like it's our starter taking it in on the 8th fingers crossed! If any one is in erie PA stay away from kia off road express!

 

Purchased mine ,formal rental…@40k.. That’s why my auto start-stop is always off..

 

We have the base model.. seems Most have issues with the upper models.. 60,000 miles.. We have lost a injector and a coil so far..disappointing , but seems not too bad for modern crap cars
