Share some of your research results so that we can evaluate them as well.

I would never get any CVT vehicle, and surprised that Subaru have gone with them. Mini used them for a couple of years and then dumped them.

I was also looking at the Subaru Outback, but did not like the CVT. Also considered the Mazda CX5 but after driving it I was not that impressed with it especially after all the rave reviews it got. Maybe it was just the one I drove.
A little over 6000 miles on my SX and no problems so far.

I watched the video. I can only say I have not experienced any of the issues reported there RE: the transmission. Mine has been pretty much flawless with the very rare exception of not downshifting to first gear upon stopping.

Very rarely it will stay in 2nd until i start to pull away and then does a quick downshift to 1st. And even more oddly, this appears to happen while in Sport mode, which I use all the time during urban driving. The few times it has happened have been when stopping fairly quickly and then restarting. I get the impression it's almost like it didn't have enough time to get all the way down to 1st gear before i hit the gas again to start back up.

But as i said, it's rare and certainly nothing yet at least, that I would complain to the dealer about. My feeling is it's more than likely a programming issue with the TCM more than a mechanical issue. Otherwise my transmission has performed just fine.

At least we don't have the 7 speed DCT transmission that is in the Sportage Tucson.

It is also interesting that one model of the Tucson with the Turbo engine starting in February will have a 6 speed transmission.

I have had no problems with my transmission a great vehicle.

I now have a few miles over 12,500 and the only issue I have had with the transmission is when cold the first upshift from 1st to 2nd flares a little (over revs for an instant). But, if allowed to warm up to the point that the idle comes down to a normal rate before engaging the trans and taking off, that issue is not present.

I believe the Sportage SX has the same 6 speed as Sorento EX w 2.0T. A friend had an early 2016 with shifting problems and service applied a transmission shit update. It fixed his issue.

Customer states Vehicle Downshifts Erratic.

Found PCM update 329.UMA 16MY 2.0T-GDI Gear Shift Logic improvement.

Other fixes mentioned in Sorento threads:

SA292A-3.3 SORENTO-SHIFT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT COMPLAINT
PERFORM SA292 JF2.0 UM3.3 SHIFT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT CAUSE SA292A

Or,

Abnormal Shift TCU/ECU Update. Listed as SA170A27 on the work

'I would never get any CVT vehicle, and surprised that Subaru have gone with them.'

Me neither. If you are not enough of a driver to appreciate the Sportage snappy-shifting 6-speed with Manual shifting capability, go ahead and get the 'old lady' Constantly Variable Transmission. You deserve it.

A computer controlled CVT is a superior technology to a multi-speed transmission because you should be always able to maximize the torque curve. In theory, you should be able to get faster times as well. Unfortunately, most CVT's are used for economy and not tuned for "sports" modes. Yes, for us old folks, the "feeling" of speed when you get the jerk of the gear change feels good, but I'd rather have faster times. I would like some control over the CVT in programming it to my liking, but if that were done, I could easily see a new way of driving the car. Instead of gear shifts, you would have torque shifts and engine breaking control. Imagine being able to control the "sport" mode by dialing in your own settings.

Why a CVT Is Basically the Perfect Transmission

Remember that CVT's were banned in motor sports because they were too good....
