Hi,
My wife’s Kia soul is on the fritz and I’m hoping someone can help diagnose it without me bringing it to a dealership.
It’s a 2016 Kia Soul base model 1.6L engine.
The main issue right now is when I’m driving, the tachometer randomly drops to zero, it won’t upshift, and the ESC light comes on. I’ve had it happen while driving around 65 mph. I pulled off the highway and restarted the car and it reset whatever the issue was.
We were also having troubles starting it the last few weeks. We changed the battery and it seemed to help, but there’s still some times where it turns over for 5-10 seconds before starting, and whenthat happens the ESC light comes on. I have to turn it off and restart for it to go away.
The horn works intermittently. And the dash will randomly flash to its brightest setting when a blinker is used.
I thought the tachometer and ESC issue could be a faulty crankshaft sensor. I bought an error code OBD2 scanner, but there are no saved error codes. Now I’m not so sure what it could be
Could it be possible that there’s loose connections or maybe a faulty relay? My wife got in a fender bender in 2022, and a shop replaced her front bumper. That is when the horn started dying on us, but the other issues popped up in the last few weeks.
I was planning to replace the crankshaft sensor myself. I’m interested if anyone has knowledge on what else could be the issue.
Thanks in advance for the help!
