Hello i have a 2011 Kia Sorento with a manual transmission that upon beginning of acceleration, loses power, starts rattling in engine at the same time whitish smoke can be seen coming from the exhaust. Then after about 4-5 seconds it stops and power is restored and smoke stops. Now it does not happen frequently. It did it tonight and before this it happened about a week ago. Tonight I was waiting idling in a parking lot for about 10 min then I then left the parking lot and as soon as I began accelerating onto the street it started to rattle and losing power while smoking. It started about a month ago and it happened while on the freeway climbing a pretty steep hill. Same thing happened, power loss, rattle, smoke. Then after about 4-5 seconds it all goes away. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Also it is consuming more oil than usual. Thanks

Dom- usually white smoke is associated with coolant loss into combustion chamber, and could be an indication of a leaky head gasket. watch your engine temp. and see if you have any coolant loss. If it is oil getting into combustion chamber, it could be as simple as a bad pcv valve
But oil smoke is generally bluish in color. It may be best to consult a trusted mechanic as excessive oil use could come from a multitude of sources( some not so good),hope this helps some. Regards....Bear

sounds like a headgasket that went. The white smoke could be engine coolant getting into the cylinders, while this is happening, the coolant is evaporating and the steam is taking up room causing the loss of engine power. The whitish smoke in your case could be steam.

bring it to the dealer and don't mention the freeway story when you bring it in. Hopefully you will be covered under a powertrain warranty still.
