2008 Sorento LX 4WD: "ESC OFF" & "ABS" Lights & Poor Acceleration

(I've seen this come up, but I have more info to provide)
The “ESC OFF” light in my girlfriend's 2008 Sorento LX 4WD is constantly on now (it went off for a few months last year and things went back to "normal") along with the "ABS" light being on. The check engine light is NOT on. It has very poor acceleration up to around 40mph.
When switching 4WD modes, I don’t hear any clicking underneath, which made me think it was the transfer motor case that had to be replaced. When switching modes, the 4WD light does NOT come on, but when switched to 4x4 Lo, the "4WD LOW" light blinks green.
I took it to AutoZone today and got only the following ABS-related codes (my cheapo bluetooth reader didn’t throw any codes):
C1213 Wheel Speed Sensor Fault
C1627 CAN Time-out 4WD
Any ideas on where to start? Before getting the codes, I was going to replace the Transfer Motor Case (I tried banging it with a rubber mallet to see if the gears were messed up like on a starter [worked for someone else, but not me]. For C1213, I don't know which wheel sensor might be out (if that is true). Also, for C1627, I've read it could be as bad as a faulty 4WD ECU or as simple as cleaning the contacts. I wonder if a bad Transfer Motor Case might be responsible for throwing these codes.
My understanding is that the typical fix to this problem is the Brake Light Switch, but I'm getting no codes for it, it was replaced under the recall (of course, it could break again), and the brake lights seem to work normally.
I'd be grateful for any guidance. We're not rich, so taking it to a dealer who, based on other's experiences, would just start replacing things without any real diagnosis would be expensive. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a proper scanner (my code reader provides live data, but not for those sensors). So, I'll either have to check each for Ohms on my multimeter or give up and take it to shop to check. Thanks again.

I broke down and bought a Foxwell NT614 Elite OBD2 Scanner. I cleared the C1213 Wheel Speed Sensor Fault code and it didn't come back. To be certain, I drove the Sorento and read the live data from the wheel sensors. In a straight line, they all matched numerically and graphically. Looks like that issue is gone and the ABS light is off for now.

So that leaves me with C1627 CAN Time-out 4WD and the ESC OFF light on. Kia issued a Technical Service Bulletin in 2011, "TRA 034", that advises that the C1627 code (among others) and/or warning lights point to an issue with the transfer case motor. That's also consistent with the inability to switch out of 2WD. "Abnormal transfer case motor signals may be transferred to the TCM due to poor
contact points inside the transfer case motor. To resolve this condition, replace the transfer
case motor assembly with a new improved assembly as described in this bulletin."

The replacement looks straight forward (there's even a mechanic on YouTube who says this is the solution for the ESC OFF light for this Sorento), so I bought one arriving from Amazon on Sunday. Hopefully, that solves the problem.

[I also have an airbag warning light with code B1482, "Driver airbag (DAB) resistance too low (2nd Stage)", but I'll leave that for now and probably let the pros tackle it.]

No joy from replacing the Transfer Case Motor. Still have code c1627 (unclearable), the ESC OFF light on, unable to switch into 4WD (stuck on 2WD), and poor acceleration.

I cleaned the connectors on the Transfer Case Control Module (“TCCM”, aka 4WD ECU, aka TOD Module) in the passenger footwell and the connectors on the ABS Control Module/ESC Control Module.

I’m going to check the wiring from the Transfer Case Motor to the TCCM (including the connector from the Transfer Case Motor) and the grounding of the TCCM.

After that, I’ll replace the TCCM (Part # 95440-4C750) which is hard to find; I’ll have to buy used for around $300.

Anybody have any better suggestions? Thanks again!

So, I recently posted about my ESC OFF light being on, being unable to go into 4WD, and acceleration being lousy (C1627). I replaced the transfer case motor and module, but no joy.

Took it to an honest mechanic who played with it and occasionally managed to get 4WD on and eliminate the ESC OFF light, but it was inconsistent and wouldn’t stick (I think he was clocking the transfer case). He thought that it was probably a bad new transfer case motor I put in there from ENA on Amazon (grrr). Alternatively, it could be the transfer case itself which would be worth about half of what the car costs. The suggestion from the mechanic was to throw another better transfer case motor in there and not cheap out this time.

I ordered a transfer case motor from Dorman, a more reputable supplier, that was supposed to arrive today, but it was delayed by Amazon and I won’t be able to install it in time for a 400 mile each way trip in the morning.

If I pull the #14 fuse (TSSC) from the driver’s footwell fuse box, I get normal acceleration (which I really want for the highway on ramps), but the ABS warning light comes on, so I assume ABS is out with that method.

Interestingly, I discovered that if the fuse is in, but I use the “manual” shift on the automatic (Tiptronic or whatever Kia called it), I can get normal acceleration, but no ABS warning light (still have the ESC OFF light and no ability to go into 4WD). Does anybody know if this method would keep ABS working?

Thanks so much! I'm grateful for any advice.
