2004 Kia Sedona Intake Manifold "Butterfly" Valve Defect

My 2004 Sedona with just 78,000 miles blew the motor because the Intake Manifold Valve (butterfly) dislodged itself and was completely ingested by the engine pistons"... and "all that remains were bits of metal shavings".

I found out that the 2002-2005 Sorento with same size engine (3.5, 6cyl.) has a recall: TSB#073/NHTSA ID#10025153 on exactly this same issue.

AUTOWORLD KIA (DEALER#7096963) Claims this is not a "Power Train" Warrenty and/or Recall Issue even though we are original owners with impeccable maintainence records.

REPAIR QUOTE: $8,371.00 plus $35/day storage from June 18 (45 days and counting).

Any advice appreciated.

When my 03 Sorento @ 86000 miles lost the butterfly screws the dealer asked for all the maintenance records. After 1 week they said it was covered. 2 weeks later it was fixed. Few months later they came out with the recall.

You sound like your getting hosed. How can they charge you for storage when they are doing the work? I could understand if the repairs were done and you failed to remove said vehicle. Take it up with KIA CORP>.

kia sorento intake valve

2005 Sorento wagon same problem with intake valve screws, no loktite used in manufacture, screws fell out on 2 intake valve, and stuff the motor. Found out via mechanic, funny thing is he said he will do my car straight after he finishes the sorento on the hoist with the same problem-another funny thing mech said he had to lock tight screws on the new motor of other car and will be doing the same to the second hand motor with 10,000 klm's on it- come on kis
