seems as though our sporty has a mind of it's own..won't start-- sometimes.
tried turning key over, tried turning the key on to let the fuel pump catch up in case of bad pressure regulator, but it seems to like to be put into neutral before starting....................possible neutral safety switch??? ==== range selector???? PS: sometimes we have to jiggle the gearshift to get the park to release the key any thoughts? thanks in advance PSS 156,000 on car

First thing I would do is open the fuse box under the hood and swap the 2 main relays with each other. If the problems goes away, replace both relays with new ones.

While sitting in the driver seat slowly push the brake pedal down about a half inch repeatedly, you should hear a solid clicking noise coming from the shifter assembly. That's the safety switch releasing the shifter shaft when the brake light switch is in closed circuit. If you don't hear it every time but the brake lights turn on every time you probably have a bad safety switch in the shifter assy. In instances where they work sometimes and not others it turns out that drivers with an affinity for sugary beverages spill a little hear and there and gum up the solenoid. Try cleaning it with electrical safe cleaner.
