Hi All,
I've been looking at a used Sportage SX and was rather disappointed at the amount of wind noise that was coming from the windsheild and sunroof area. I'm coming from a 12 Sorento (with no options) and was expecting the Sportage SX to be a lot nicer. Could anyone comment on whether this is usual or if I should go test other SX's? The one I tested was a 13 with only like 6k miles on it. I was really disappointed because I've always really liked the Sportage. I'm interested if others with the panoramic sunroof feel like there is a lot of wind noise, or how the Sportage compares with the Sorento?
Thanks for any feedback!

I have a 2011 SX with the panoramic roof and wind noise was never an issue with me...well, that was until I installed the cross bars.

I never thought my 2011 was noisy either until I put my cross bars and bike trays on it.

That's kind of interesting because I think the one I drove had crossbars. But then again so does my Sorento... Maybe I'll have to try driving one without them

The Sportage is noisy. The sunroof creates a lot of wind noise as well, even when closed. Doesn't bother me though, I always have the stereo on and try to have the windows & sunroof open all the time anyway.

But a Lexus this car is not. If a quiet smooth ride is your deal, the SX isn't what you want.

Ive noticed it from the very first time I bought the car. Very annoying when you drive with the wind hitting directly infornt of you. But same as other owners say, I got the stereo on all the time so from time to time it is no problem.

Ive ordered a sunroof wind deflector to find a solution to this problem, same maker as those who has autoclover hood guard.

Has anyone installed window vent visors, and noticed extra wind noise?
The Sporty is loud enough, but I'm sick, & tired of my speakers, & door controls getting wet!

Roof rails. I have a 2012 Sportage and can't role the windows down because of the noise. I have no roof rails? The dealership has been adding these aftermarket mismatching silverish rails to all of the cars in inventory? Anyone with roof rails having noise problems????

Funny is even in tilt mode, the wind noise is also very severe. Probably it is a flaw design and the tester never drove the car above 80mph.

Here the solution.

from the Dutch Sportage forum

Greetings Pipercub
I was getting a whistling noise from the passenger side so thought it couldn't be cross bars. Despite the bad Google translation, I tried this mod this evening. Fingers crossed.

I bought the Auto Clover wind deflectors and installed them on my LX. Precisely cause water would roll off the roof right into the car if the window was open.

They work fine (you will still get a drop or two, of course) and I don't think they add any extra noise. Can't say I had the car very long before putting them on though.

Man, that PDF is hilarious. I'm no mechanic, but it only left out an animation showing the direction to turn the screws -- Grade A for documentation.

It's been mentioned on the forums many times, and I've repeated it a few times, that the sunroof screws can use adjustment for wind-noise. It isn't The Solution, but it is a major solution when Sportage noise is obnoxious. I hope I've posted on Dynamat and Bitumen vs. Butyl and air gaps, but if not, anyone suffering from wind-noise should try the sunroof fix then consult a local audio-installation specialist.
