Will Removing the TCCS Fuse (Turn off 4wd) Cause Damage?

Hello Everyone,

I'm currently on a road trip and suddenly had a popping/clunking noise which felt like the drivetrain when accelerating. I did a quick search online and found that it might be the Transfer Case. I believe I have the Torque on Demand (TOD) version of the Sorento as I only have the Auto/4wd knob.

Anyhow, I disconnected Fuse 13 for the TCCS and the problem went away. My question is will driving it like this cause any damage? I'm a few thousand miles away from home and don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get it fixed on the road, so would rather wait until I get home to fix it.

Hi Everyone,

A quick update and a new question - I've been driving without Fuse 13 for a while now and it seemed okay, but just today I noticed a sort of che che che noise when accelerating. The noise is only heard in the higher gears (not gear 1 and 2), when accelerating, and when speeds are below 100km/h (60mph). Any ideas what this might be? It sounds like it is coming from the front of the car, so I'm thinking it might have something to do with the transfer case? I think I read somewhere that AWD turns off at a certain speeds, so I'm thinking this is linked somehow...

Fuse 13 is still removed FYI.

Since fuse 13 was 'solving' the problem you obviously have a pre-facelift model. Could well be the front propshaft joints are giving out. One should be a CV joint with 6 bolts on the flange - this in not servicable except by replacing the shaft. The other joint should be a standard UJ with 4 bolts. These suffer from lack of maintenance as the grease nipple is hard to access. This joint is servicable. Don't know where you are based, but sometimes there are aftermarket replacement shafts available on line at reasonable cost compared to oem.
