Discussion Starter #1
I've recently just bought a brand new battery and alternator, and now it would seem my starter's going. It only cranks intermittently. I can't find it to check it and make sure it's not just corrosion, and I want to see if it's something I could change myself and save the $100 a garage would charge.

Could someone tell me exactly where the starter is on the 2001 model, and how I can get at it?
Please don't give me the useless link for Kia's "free" manuals. their website does not work at all.
Thanks.

Please fill out your profile as to make, model and general location. This may explain why the "free" manuals do not work for you.

KIA's are sold world wide.

To access kiatechinfo.com and do it right...it requires you use SPECIFIC software.
Here's a cut/paste that "if" you follow it EXACTLY you will have more info than you'll know what to do with...

Start...

You really don't need to "buy" a manual...Just go to "kiatechinfo.com",
register, and all the info you need is right there.
You need to be running
Microsoft Windows (XP,Vista,7) and
Microsoft IE (Internet Explorer 8 or higher).
You also need to download and install a free "plug-in or app" called Adobe SVG
(Scaled Vector Graphics). There is a link to this software on their site.
and a valid email address to send the password to..
This is the only known good way to get onto this site..

If you change to a different browser/operating system/etc... you WON'T be successful.

There is a moderate learning curve as things aren't always where you would think they should be...but a little looking gets everything you could possibly need.
end...

We are here also to help and want to answer any questions you have.

So the only answer I get to 'where is the starter-motor on a 2001 Kia Rio" is go to the kiatechinfo.com website? The one answer that useless and I specifically asked not for? How about someone just telling me where the starter-motor is???

That Kiatechinfo website is completely useless.! It keeps having an "unexpected error go back to log-in page" error during the registration process. The site does not work at all.

Marc put your front end up on ramps, crawl under past the oil pan look up at the oil filter. Look to the left and there is the starter. I hope this helps. Reguards Ronjohn and do use kia tech for removal and installation procedures if you can. Good luck

Marc...
That site DOES work "if" you were smart enough to follow instructions... You would have found your answer there but wish to complain about at fully functional web site and beg for answers...
Every complaint I've heard about kiatechinfo was from people who can't (or won't) follow instructions.

You have to be lazy.. (You can't find a starter on a very simple car...get real) and then bitch and complain when someone offers "HOW TO" log on to a site that would give you answers to ALL your KIA Rio questions...

I find answers there every day and try to help others that want to learn
