I have a 02 sporty 2.0 and I'm replacing the water pump, upon removal of the bad pump I noticed that the new one is a 6 blade and the original pump is a 8 blade! My question is will the 6 blade work without problems like over heating due to not pumping the same cfm's as the 8 blade? Or shredding the belt? What should I check in order to make sure it will work, the pulley diameter etc?

Engineering changes and commonization between various engine families is very common. Cost savings.
You will be fine with the 6 blade as long as the part numbers verify.
But, it is possible someone put the wrong pump in your box.
I would go back to the parts store and verify with another pump with same part number to ensure compatibility.
Hold them up side to side and back to back to compare.
