Yesterday my 09 Borrego 3.8 L. Threw out a PO456 emission code which is listed as a minor leak on the emission system. The checks are remove and retighten the fuel cap, ck the purge valve in the engine compartment. Has anyone had this happen to their Borrego and if so what was causing the code. I did retighten the gas cap and cleared the code.

I've been having the same problem with my Borrego 4.6 V8...I changed the purge valve (15 bucks), I tried with a new the gas cap and then cleared the code, but the light keeps coming up so now I need to erase the code every 5 or 6 months...
My mechanic says that small leaks are hard to find, they would need to do a "smoke test". He also reassured that the issue is not important at all, so for me is just a minor annoyance, I will keep clearing the code I guess....

The vapor canister purge valve is probably causing your issue and from what I can find it’s located somewhere around the gas tank. They can be purchased on eBay for approximately $17.00, don’t know how much of a pita they are to replace. Apparently my issue was the gas cap, removed it, wiped the seal off, put it back on and haven’t had a code pop up.
