Hi,

My Kia Forte Koup has tires sized 205/55R16. We are about to sell our Ford Focus and we had snow tires for it. Can I use those tires on my Kia? They are 205/50R16?

If I can, will there be any affect on the car for doing this (speedometer off, odd wear on the car)?

Thank you.

Not too sure if rims from Focus will fit on KIA rim

But if only changing rubber, surf: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

Current 205/55R16 - replace with 205/50R16
Speedo reading of 65 mph (104.61 km/h) / Actual speed of 62.8 mph (101.07 km/h)

If it were my Kia vehicle, I'd install the skinnier 205/50R16 4 x tires for better winter traction.

And in late spring/summer/late fall months, go back to factory 4 x 205/55R16 rubber.

Note: When changing rubber size, remember to change all 4 to exact same size. And, do try to keep the same company / brand as well. Thus, ensuring ABS continues to work properly.

At 205 these tires have the same width (not skinnier)

The profile (height of rubber) is different 50 vs 55 (this having taller sidewalls)..

The rim size 16" is the same...

derman, the difference in circumference is small, and within what I call tolerance, so I'd go ahead and use the 205/50-16 winter tires.
In my case it is the other way round, I'm currently running on 205/65-15 i/o 205/60-15, simply because 205/60-15 is quite rare and some tires aren't offered in that size at all. (Not a Kia, our Kia is on 215/45-17 for summer and 205/55-16 for winter).

google tire calculator and you'll see how much of a speedometer difference there will be by switching to the smaller diameter tire. If you have a manual transmission, you're essentially gearing down your drive ratios and you should also feel a small improvement in acceleration.
