for USB port to cable to IPhone with CarPlay.
Does your USB PORT/connection ever drop and quickly come back?
Trying to determine if I should take it to the dealer and do surgery or live with it.
Same behavior once in a while when using CarPlay adaptor (adaptor wired connection to car can drop).
This can happen like 0-5 times in a day of driving and sometimes can be really fast where you don’t notice it too much but may need to reconfirm GPS. However if wireless adaptor drops it may not reconnect.
Also adaptor drop has shut off the port until the car shuts off and start but if wired to phone and lose connection it quickly comes right back and connects.
Is this a defect others who use the port are seeing or not at all And you guys don’t have any issues. Phone is up to date.
Also note both devices have different cables so don’t think the cable is the root cause. Also happens (again this once in a while) at random times not seemingly tied to moving anything or bumps.
I'm getting the same thing, just randomly looses connection and then immediately goes to 'connecting USB' and carplay comes back. I've tried several cables too...

Happening with mine, too. We’ve been swapping USB cables almost daily, as my wife and I use different ones. Wondering if the port has become loose. Has anyone been able to find a fix?

I'm leaning towards an issue with firmware or a different type of physical issue, not a matter of it being loose. Mine is so random, and I rarely ever unplug the CarlinKit, so mine doesn't see much wear, but I still get random disconnects.

Same on my sportage urban diesel...
Im from israel, we have another multimedia screen then in the US but it happens to me aswell.
Carplay can work for 20 minutes or so and then every 5/6 minutes it quickly disconnect and then reconnect.
Im using a genuine apple cable that i bought few days ago. (dont have wireless connection)
Also i went to the dealer to update the system software and still the same. (here we have to go to the dealer to update the software)
Still have my phone connected to the car bluetooth and haven't tired to remove it, maybe thats the problem..
But i also remmber that after i updated my phone to 16.2 it started to happend.

I'm thinking its more of a firmware/ software issue as well...

When it happens on mine, the phone also stops charging. Would hate to think software would randomly disconnect both the data and charging circuits? I think mine is hardware connector-related. May not be the physical port, but maybe a loose/sporadic connection somewhere in the wiring harness?

Programming could absolutely cause it.

My appointment on Friday was a bit of a bust, the techs connected their phones (Androids and iPhones) and couldn't recreate it. For the past few weeks I've just been using the BT which has been totally fine. I drove home with it connected to AA and it worked for 10 minutes just fine and disconnected. I was able to snap a picture, I'm going to try to send them the photo. He said we'd have to do this dance 3 times total before Kia would actually replace anything. I'll update if I have any more info

I brought mine into the dealer and noted this issue and they updated all of the software. On the way home I had a Disconnect and a few more on other days at random times. They noted after they update the software they can look into other things with Kia. I am going to take this back at least at the next oil change. If anyone learns anything please post it. Thank you.

Also, is there anybody who uses wired CarPlay regularly that does not have sporadic disconnects on a semi regular basis.

Mine still disconnects every once in a while. Have tried several cables and a couple wireless CarPlay adapters. Doesn’t seem to matter. And it loses power at the same time, so both data and power go down in the outlet when this happens. Haven’t needed to go to the dealer for anything else yet, but will mention it if I do.

My wife is the main driver of the Sportage and she's never had issues with disconnection. I drove it for about a month and I didn't have any connection/disconnection issues either.

Well, if not all of us are having this issue, then that pretty much rules out a software source, or we all would have it. Seems to be an individual hardware issue.

I am dealing with the same issue with my 2023 Sportage. I purchased mine at beginning of December. Worked fine for a month and a half then the disconnection issues began. At first I thought it was happening when I would hit a small bump in the road but then on a smooth service it was disconnecting still.

I have used multiple high end cables and still had issues.
I did a factory reset on my iPhone to see if it was an issue with the iOS and still had issues.
I updated to the latest firmware and still had issues
I used friends and family members phones and still had issues

I took my car to the dealership. Receptionist did not even turn on the car and told me I needed to call the Kia Service Center and report the issue. I called them and the rep when through some trouble shooting. She states that it is not a software issue and seems to be a hardware issue. She told me to take it a dealership and I informed her they told me to call her lol. She she called the dealership and spoke with a service manager at the dealership and explained the issue. So I am taking my car in tomorrow to see what they can do.

I’ve resorted to using a mechanical (electric won’t work) A-B USB switch. I keep the wireless CarPlay dongle plugged into one side and a phone cable that seems to work the best plugged into the other. I start out trips using the wireless and once it freezes up (and it will eventually), I hit the button twice to switch off the dongle and then switch it back on again. Clears it up for a while most of the time. If I’m on a longer trip, I just switch over to the cable and hope for the best. Either way, having that button helps to have a “reset” option without having to unplug/re-plug cables!

This is the switch:

So I am taking my car in tomorrow to see what they can do.
Please let us know if they figure out how to fix it!

If the dealership doesn't do it, see if you're brave enough to take the center console apart and check for soft connection from the USB port to the media unit

Update: So I took my car in yesterday morning and was informed that it could take 3-4 business days for them to run diagnostic checks. I got a text message this morning saying my car was ready for pick up.

Issue: USB cable connector was loose.

Here is the full notes from the service department:

Connected phone to car with USB cable and verified that the USB port would intermittently disconnect and illumination at console would turn off indicating USB cable was disconnecting and issue was not with phone cable. Removed center console cubby to inspect and found connection at console secure. Removed cluster / radio display and found connections good. Removed audio module located behind radio display and found that the audio USB cable connector was loose. Secured connector properly and reassembled all components. Test drove after repairs and found that USB no longer disconnects intermittently.

So far I have not had any issues and things are running smoothly. Hopefully this helps the rest of you having the same issues.
