I just received a notice in the mail from Kia Canada indicating they are extending the warranty to 15 years and 230000km to cover the lose head-bolt/coolant leak/head-gasket issue. Just as I have the engine completely apart to fix it myself. Just wonderful timing. For those of you who have not started the repair, check with your Kia dealer to see if this is covered.
Well I wonder what the bottom line is on the warranty post a dealer repair. Is it still covered if the work fails or engine fail due to improper rebuild or prep machining omitted etc. Otherwise its a time bomb.

I will disagree as I have seen the letter from the US and it states 2014-2015.
If you can find information on US 2014-15's can you add it here. I have not received any letter on this and yes my vehicle is registered in the Kia US data base. I have received a couple of other notices OK, but nothing on 3.3 stripped threads..

After another call by my wife to Kia Canada and same answer as I got she ended up getting a call from a manager at Kia Canada saying that there is a extended warranty to 15 years or 240,000km but I have to take it to the Kia dealership in my town as I do not have the letter which was mailed but must have gone to an old address (not sure since we got a recall letter to our current address just a couple of months ago) Will take it in for diagnosis and see what happens.

Hi Bob, I received an extended warranty extension for the 3.3L engines for coolant leak, i found it on the Kia website to submit for payment but now it seems they've removed that link. I've attached the letter i received. It's definitely not for stripped threads, but related to the head gasket and causing further issues.

syrahminush: thanks for that info, I have received nothing yet, I see it was dated May 2024, maybe they are throttling the release starting from the left to right in the US. We here on the east coast may be the last to see it. Or maybe the state of CA has more pull...
PS: I called a local service manager, she knew nothing about a 2015 letter. She said if I ever had the symptoms to bring it in for diagnosis and it could possibly be covered. That confused the heck out of me, do not like maybe on a $6K repair bill....

UPDATE: just found this info on the internet:
Note the coverage dates in Q3: on the Sorento's-- mfg. date Dec. 17, 2012 through Dec. 11, 2014, so it does not cover all 2015's. My 2015 was mfg. May 2014 so it's in range of effected vehicles. If I do not receive extended warranty letter one I'll follow up w/Kia in a month or two.

I received my letter for the warranty extension today on my 2015 Sorento. FYI
Others in Canada should as well if you are registered owner with Kia Canada of course!!

I received my letter yesterday about extended warranty which also states you can send in receipt to try and recoup any expense you may have already had for fixing the head gasket issue. Already had mine done 3 years ago and it looks like it's failing again so it's going to the dealership on Friday.

Hello all. So i got the letter from Kia about extended warranty for the coolant leak issue and wanted to know if anyone has had their car repaired by Kia yet under this extended warranty and also if anyone has submitted a claim to Kia for repairs done for this issue prior to them extending the warranty. We had the head gasket fixed in 2021 and the put in helicoil in two of the holes in the block as those were the only ones that needed fixing at that time but now we are having a coolant issue again. It is being dropped off to the dealership tomorrow for a recall as well as the coolant issue and I just wanted to hear if anyone has been through the process to see what Kia is saying.

Update. First off you are not allowed to double dip. We were told you could either get reimburced for the repair done 3 years ago or we can put it a claim to have it repaired now. We chose to have the repair now as the old repair was already paid for we chose to have it done now and 6 hours later they gave us a call and said they have sent in a claim to Kia Canada for a new engine. Now could someone tell me exactly what the new engine gets me? I know they will put some of the accessories on from the old engine. Is the timing chain going to be new? Starter, alternator etc?

based on what I've read, some get a shortblock and they reuse the old heads, some get a shortblock plus new heads, some get complete engines. I guess it depends on what is available and what the dealer doing the repair orders from Kia. The best people to answer what version you get is the dealer themselves.

If the 3.3 is handled like my 2.0 T was, the accessory drive is the same, i did pay for a serpentine belt as they said that mine was starting to show signs of cracking, but they didn't give me my old one for me to have seen. Timing components (other than cams if reusing old heads) is also new (new hain, guides, tensioner, etc). And engine mounts are also reused from the old one. or at least in my case they were.

I'd possibly look at getting new spark plugs installed if you have not done that service.

Well Kia called and the engines are obsolete so there will be no new engine and all we were told is there is some sort of recall coming out of South Korea and they are in the process of translating it and will be posted on the Kia website next week. Not sure what this all means for us with the coolant issues. Will keep you all posted.

Well they'll have to start building new blocks and heads as required. This is a widespread problem and not normal parts level stocking they may have. It'll be interesting to see how its going to be handled neither parts damaged can be used as they are without remedies and/or major machining which dealers don't have nor enough shops even willing to take it on in volume.

I noticed a week or so ago someone in my town has put up notes on telephone poles saying Kia are Crooks and don't by from Kia they seem to be on many poles and someone said they have been there before. Being part of this forum and other Facebook groups I am really starting to realize how wide spread this problem is.

The 4 cyl debacle got owners a new block/engine as I understand it. They were forced by a class action lawsuit to do more. The 3.3L doesn't fall into that category and they're likely skimming the min efforts into repairs along with limited or no effective warranty once work is done. This will NOT convince a lot to reinvest in a product they are now making. I personally don't trust many 4 cyl engines. Kia/Hyundai being on the top of the don't touch it list. It takes many years of field use to validate an engine is proven. Currently all Kia's engines are pretty much proven to fail. Some might say this is a good one. But how long has it been around. The V6 was the only thing that lead me to look and buy not one but two different generations. I maybe one of the lucky ones but the build date on the 2015 is in the failed group. I'll see and go from there. These vehicles are big enough to require a V6. Nothing less will do, we don't have diesel offering in NA so their torque and advangages cannot be utilized.

I'm surprised you heard from them so quickly, or did you call and talk to them? I submitted a claim the minute I received my letter, and I still haven't heard from them. That was June 17th and the blown head gasket caused my Cat to fail and here in lovely California it's not cheap to replace.

We contacted Kia head office in Canada twice before we even got the letter and they told us there was no extended warranty even though we had heard several people in Canada had received one. About a week later a supervisor called my wife and told us there was an extended warranty and the letter was probably just sent to an old address but a week later it came in. The car was going to the dealership for a recall on the 5th and we told them to look at it at the same time which they did and called later that day to confirm it was the head gasket. they sent a request to Kia Canada suggesting a new engines and today they called us to say the engines are obsolete but there is another letter coming our of South Korea about recall or something that should come out next week so we wait for the next step. Not sure what the next step will be.

If its a Credit to buy an newer model. Then its a insult and scam as it cost them nothing to heavy discount a current product. FYI I heard of that once before. Maybe a CRV years ago since there undercarriages were rusting out and vehicle falling apart.

I still have not received my letter. I have verified through my local dealership that I am the registered owner of my car with Kia Canada.
