Well its a long story a little over a year ago bought a used 2010 Kia Soul+ with the 2.0 automatic with 24 K miles on it. Wife loves the car and all was well until we developed a slight ticking noise when cruising at 45-55 when engine was warm. No check engine light, no warning lights, just a clicking. Thought it might be a idler pulley or a compressor issue. Two weeks ago took it too the dealer on Saturday morning. We recreated the sound by gently loading engine against brake with car in gear. Hard to believe it was from in the engine! I believe we have 35,000 miles on the Soul. Kia checked there records and we showed them our service receipts and Kia replaced the short block under warranty. It was to be done last Friday. After it was all rebuilt and installed It failed again! New block was defective and we had a nice gumbo of oil and coolant. Dealer calls today and a new long block will arrive Thursday. Car will be back Friday just shy of 3 weeks. I have read multiple forums and appears I'm one of the first with a internal engine issue (or two). I will give Kia USA credit and the local dealer credit. They have been very reasonable to deal with we have a rental car, and they keep us posted and it will be under warranty, but boy does the wife miss her Soul.

Lets stay with the unlucky.... Kia service manager just called no engines in stock in the US. They are "SHIP"ing a engine it is expected date May 12th! The the ship in parentheses is mine. I would assume it is coming by ship. If North Korea doesn't torpedo it (what else could go wrong). Kia is very nice and the service adviser is working with a zone specialist from the service department to expedite a engine. My wife could cry, Kia is providing a rental but right now it is a Jeep Compass (Jeep on a Dodge Caliber chassis) she is contacting Enterprise to see if they rent Kia's

It's good to know that Kia is standing behind their product.
Too bad that you have to wait so long for the new block.
Hope that you have quick success in finding a rental Kia.

One has to be appreciative when an automobile manufacturer truly stands behind their product and warranty.
I'm glad that I bought a Kia Soul.

Cheers. GotSoul

OK now we can go to lucky owner. Local Dealer called about 8:00 AM the engine is hear. Called back about 3:30 its installed tested and car is in the wash rack... Picked car up it's a remanufactured engine, about what I expected. Checking under the hood every thing is buttoned down, wires and cables properly routed, engine bay cleaned. Looks like excellent workmanship. Reading thru the paper work info on the original engine was showing number two cylinder scoured bearings, piston, cylinder. Total charge $38 dollars for oil change to put on Kia Filter and oil to verify it wasn't a issue with the filter or oil. If I want to get picky they forgot to write down radio presets before they disconnected battery to replace engine ;^)

accepting things go wrong
the way complaints are handled is the way judgment should be made on most things this is also true in the instance of the wonky engine of alan ds kia soul
from what ive read nearly if not all boxes of good customer relations have been ticked ..communication. .attitude.. follow up... loan vehicle etc etc
now if alan plays his cards right......... HE SHOULD GET ALL THE CREDIT FROM HIS WIFE for resolving the issue quicker than anticipated and be rewarded accordingly

Well I think we can put this thread to bed. Been a couple weeks now car is running fine no noise no issues, wife is happy as can be, to be back in her Soul. I have searched all over the internet and it appears it really was a fluke. I just do not see any one others with engine issues. Should make every one feel better, even if your that 1 in 10,000 or so Kia was very reasonable to deal with...
