I recently picked up a 2000 Kia Sephia from my mother-in-law who said that the transmission went out over a year ago and the car has sat ever since. I called a few shops and a friend who specializes in transmission (he also rebuilt the transmission in my Chevy Tahoe 4x4 last year for $1200), and the cheapest I could find was $1200. Is this correct? My friend said these cars have "throw away transmissions, and the parts to rebuild it were expensive. He just replace my Tahoe trans, and had to move and disconnect the transfer case, all for the same price ? What would be my best option? Should I rebuild it, or just look for a used one off another Sephia. My car currently has 85k miles. Don't exactly know what is wrong with the tranny?

Have you test drove it at all? Did you check the trans fluid level? Were there alot of metal flakes in the trans oil?
