Hi

Does anyone have any experience of towing with the 1.4 engine?

I have the Pro Ceed but i would of thought the 5 door would be the same?

Weight would be around 400kg in a box trailer unbraked.

Anyone done similar?

Did it struggle generally or was it ok?

Thoughts appreciated!

No, but I thought I would add a comment

At risk of offence, people generally underestimate or ignore the weight they carry on board. 4 men and a full tank of fuel is about 400kg so that should be an easy experiment to try.

It might be more a matter of being careful about the combination of internal and external weight.

Towing specifications say 550Kg unbraked, and a rather alarming 1200Kg braked.

Considering the car is only about 1400Kg, you won't be going anywhere fast or comfortable with even a smallish van. A 400Kg trailer + load shouldn't be a problem, though.

I've "moved house" with a 1.5 litre car, and there was about 500Kg of household items and luggage stacked inside (just enough room for the driver!). Performance was adequate, but sluggish.

Used to tow a 500kg unbraked trailer with a car less powerful and way lighter than a 1.4 Ceed, you will have no problem.

Hello Metheone, If its any help at all I tow a two berth caravan with my 1.6 Pro Ceed 3 with no trouble at all. Towed same with Skoda Octavia and found little difference. Did Check the weights though and I am well withing the regulations. I would think your 1.4 would manage very well, even with an unbreaked trailer providing you take heed of Ace Demons advice.
