Tow prep package

Does anyone know how I can identify if my car has a tow package?

Does anyone know which part of the VIN-number would tell me that?

Is there any other way to tell?

Very thankful for any help with this! Thanks,

Thanks for the response,

I'm planning to install a hitch. But the question that came up was about the "tow prep package". This would allow me to tow 3,500 lb instead of only 2,000 lb without it according to the manual. The "tow prep package" would typically include a transmission cooler and possibly other items, that allows the car to tow heavier safely and without breaking down. I could have been clearer in my first post. :)

Also, I have a 2015 Sorento EX, V6, AWD, just to give some more info.

V6 AWD is 3500lbs fyi. 4 cyl are not at all. Owners manual says it clearly. Up above the rear driver side tire is the factor wire harness for the converter extension you can buy on ebay or eTrailers.com Don't get the CURT one though as they corrode and create problems when they fail. There are two plugs together with a weather proof cap over them.

The transmission cooler is normally behind the drivers headlight if you look through the grill if I recall correctly for the 6 speed transmission.

That's good to know, because I actually went back through my emails and realized I did purchase the Curt harness for my 2016 Sorento (unlike the one I linked to the OP above, which was simply the first search result on etrailer I found today). And I definitely had issues with it. It blew out one of my taillight bulbs, and I think one of the fuses linked to the taillights on another occasion. So that was probably why.

I clarified this with the service manager at the dealership when I bought my 2016 (and wanting to install a hitch), and I later confirmed it (by purchasing the appropriate wiring harness, and observing that my mechanic did not call me back to say "hey, you bought the wrong wiring harness.. I can't install your hitch").

Not sure if I posted about it in a previous thread here, but all V6 models are equipped with the tow prep package. So you should be all set.

Get the Tekonsha one as they're the best from what I found. I bought two of them. One for each Sorento. They come with everything and are sealed unlike others from the spec's

Cheers
