I am looking to get a tow hitch for the Sorento PHEV and noticed the dealership price was over $1K. Are these hard to install on your own?

I called the U-Haul and other companies that will put a tow hitch on but they didn't have 2022 Sorento even listed yet. I wasn't sure if there was anything special about a PHEV or if I could just go get the part on my own and take care of it.

I installed the Curt hitch on my own - took about 45 minutes and is absolutely straight forward. You would do well to have a second set of hands to hold it in place while you get the bolts started, that's very difficult without a third arm. Etrailer has a good installation video on their website. AFAIK - there's no applicable difference between the 2022 PHEV and any 2020+ Sorento variant.

I have the HEV, took about an hour with a few drinks down the hatch and a second set of hands. There's a black cover over the drivers side that has a couple bolts, and it needs to come out. I pulled I believe 3 exhaust hangers off using a crowbar, and then the hitch bolts right in. Reattach the exhaust hangers, bolt the cover back on, and you're good to go.

The hitch fits VERY snug over the muffler. With quick bumps if the muffler bounces it will definitely make contact with the hitch sitting over it, but I haven't had any issues.

You could probably do it in the driveway with just a socket set. I also used a crowbar and a hydraulic lift just to have some room to work.

I was able to get the curt 13473 hitch for $224.95 from U-Haul and total of $283.75 installed after tax. That beat the price I could find anywhere online for just the hitch. Worth checking into if anyone is interested. I did have to select the 2021 Sorento to get it to show up for me. Very happy with the end result.

FYI, I have the PHEV, if anyone is wondering if it fits that model. I had read it fit on e-trailer and can confirm that is the case.
