Kia Sportage make the list

10. Mazda CX-5 $20,995

Crossovers continue to be one of the most competitive new car segments in the industry, and that’s a good thing for car buyers. With more and more entries into the market, prices have dropped across the board. Here’s a quick look at the top 10 cheapest crossover vehicles.

First on the list is Mazda’s newest model, the CX-5. The CX-5 was designed with Mazda’s SkyActiv philosophy in mind, which means fuel efficiency with no compromise. That helps it get an impressive 35 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city. All that for just under $20,000. That price tag gets you crossover with 155-hp, and 150 lb-ft of torque. Making the deal even sweeter is that the base CX-5 comes with a six-speed manual transmission and a huge assortment of safety features. Of course this is just number 10 on our list, so lets see what value can be had in the crossover segment.

Be sure to check out our review on the 2012 Mazda CX-5.

I know I'm a bit biased, but I think the Sportage is the coolest of the bunch! :D

Lots of good choices in that segment - before I bought my Sorento I was looking at the Mazda CX-7, which I was told was being replaced by the CX-5. The CX-7 was a fun riding vehicle (and a fun turbo!), so I would expect the same from the CX-5.
