2000 sporty when you take your foot off the gas it takes around twenty seconds for the rpm to start dropping back to a normal idle. It use to surge and "hunt" but i fixed that (it had a gasket out of place). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would recommend starting by checking that the throttle cable has a small amount of slack in it / is not over-tightened, and that the cable is moving freely when the accelerator pedal is pressed & released,

thats all free and good, another thing if you hold it at 3k rpm it will drop on its own without removing your foot from the pedal

Then would suggest checking that the rubber air intake ducts hoses are secure and tight between the airbox and throttle body (eliminate illegal air causing the issue),
and that plastic resonator on the metal intake plenum, the vent hose running from the back of the valve cover -> to the plenum, and the PCV valve/hoses are in good condition and secure,

If good, would then suggest inspecting and cleaning the IAC valve, and the openings on the metal intake plenum where the IAC valve mounts to w/ carb cleaner: be careful / take note when removing the IAC valve, there is a thin (paper) or (plastic) gasket between the IAC valve and the metal plenum, not to damage it when removing / reinstalling the valve,

In addition to GottaCruise's list,

do a complete fuel pressure system test....

Connect a vacuum gauge to an un-metered nipple and report the reading (19-21"Hg is good)...... Philip

what is the best way to locate illegal air sources?
Best and only way is to take the time and thoroughly inspect each hose to make sure it is not cracked or brittle, that the hose is still pliable / intact / in good condition, and that each clamp securing has good spring tension / not rusted / in good condition ..

Visual inspection is important, but "getting your hands dirty" by checking each hose for dry cracks, etc. is just, if not more, important when checking hose condition,

using a screwdriver, pliers, or 8 / 10 mm socket to check hose clamps to make sure they are secure is recommended.

Once you've eliminated illegal air causing the high-idle condition, (if it was me), I would be pulling the metal intake plenum and giving that IAC valve & ports in the intake plenum a good cleaning next,

so i checked everything and the gasket around the IAC was a little broken i put some gasket on there and it fixed it right up
