I made an earlier post where my 96 Sportage had little or no acceleration. Changed plugs. coils and air filter. Didn't help. Have not changed fuel filter/pump.
What I did do is take off a little 1/2 inch rubber cap off the left side of engine - easily seen across from the battery. The cap is covering a little intake tube - don't know what this tube is for or why it's capped. This helped by apparently letting more air into the engine so now the car's performance is a little better when starting from a stopped position.
Questions:
1) Is it safe to run the car with this cap off?
2) If part of the problem is that the engine is not getting enough air then what can I do to let more air into the engine? I changed the air filter and that didn't make a difference.
Thanks for any replies....
