Hi all,

I have 2002 Kia Sportage conv with 105k miles. I replaced the fan clutch recently and I was putting the thermostat housing back together and it is leaking. I put a new gasket on the housing. It seems to be leaking on the bolt closest to the engine. I think I may have cracked the housing. It is more typical for the upper houseing to crack or the lower housing?

Whenever I had a leak after doing the thermostat, it was due to the gasket shifting on re-install .. But if you over-torqued, I would guess the top cracked, vs. the lower housing. Tip: put a thin bead of water pump gasket RTV on the gasket, fit to lower housing, then install the top housing - keeps the gasket in-place.
