Hi guys,

I've tried to find topics related to my issue but didn't have any success, let me know if anybody have seen it before.

I recently purchased a 2011 Kia Sportage and the sunroof stopped working properly. When I click the button to open it, it just slightly move upwards but does not drift back or anything. Feels like there could be a little rock on the track not allowing it to open any more than that, but I'm sure that probably isn't the case. Does anyone know what it could be? One sparky told me it could be the fuse, the sunroof engine or the wire that connect to the switch. None of those sound completely right to me as the engine does work - even though is only a few mm - which probably makes all of the options above invalid.

I appreciate if anybody could help me out with this as I'm not looking forward to spend around $3k to change the whole thing.

Thank you,
Dan

I'm forever cleaning and lubing our one. They just get full of crap from trees etc. Once cleaned and lubed, it works fine for a month or two and then I'm cleaning it again.

Symptom for me is that it will partially open, fail and then auto close again. I can usually help it open by hand but sometimes it just won't have it.

We have an ix35 Highlander, 2nd owner. Same issue it opened then could not close. too much drag and goes into overcurrent. would close with assistance if I pushed it. I cleaned the tracks and used some lube I use on brakes that helped but Ideally needs to be removed cleaned and then correct lube applied. You can get the individual parts.

I may be able to provide some guidance there, avoid the dealers and you will save a lot of money.

We rarely use ours whch also be part of the issue. I have not checked if the parts are shared across for the roof yet Kia/Hyundai it's likely except the roof shape could be different.

avoid usng WD40 or silicone spray. that did not go down well on my i40 nearly stuffed it. Much bigger glass top on that one.

How badly do you want to open and close that roof?
