I bought used Carens and 3,000 miles after the service the sump plug has dropped off and all the oil came out. This has caused a problem with the turbo and the dealer is trying to charge us £1,000 to repair it. I think it is their fault as the sump plug wasn't fitted properly at the service. Has anyone else had a sump plug drop out for any other reason?

Any sump plug that I've ever dealt with definitely will not "drop off". They are a decent-sized plug with plenty of thread, and should be tightened with a torque wrench and preferably with a new washer. You need a fair bit of force to loosen the plug, usually a sharp whack with your hand on the spanner is required.

The dealer should be responsible and it's unlikely that you or anyone else would have loosened the plug by mistake. Look for the details on the service sheet, noting any mention of new washer.
